Right now the car has 235/45/17 on the front and 245/45/17 in the rear and I'm getting new tires at the end of this week. What is the widest tire I can get on the car without rubbing? The front/rear tires sizes don't have to match this is not a DD only a toy that gets driven on the weekends.

Appreciate the help!

I want a tire that will fit without modications. My car is dropped probably 1.5-2" so I was thinking still running 235/45/17 up front with 255/40/17 in the rear.

Na, that's too small. I bought the 275/40/17 on a 2" drop car and they fit fine, no rubbing. Really wish I had got the 295's. Something does rub if there is somebody in the back (adult) but that's not very often and I put really soft springs in the rear that's when it started rubbing.

Does that matter if I've done a 5 lug conversion? I'm still on the stock 4 lug and I'll look into flipping the quad shocks. I'm getting these tires tomorrow and I might gamble and do the 255/40/17 up front with 275/40/17 in the rear.

i have 255/40s up front, and 275/40s in the rear, car is dropped with C-springs

sorry if i'm jacking, but i am also wondering the same thing.
what do u have for rim size, off set and back spacing to be able to get 255 up front. do u have any rubbing issues at all? and lastly is ur car lowered?
again i appologize. thanks.

my 87 has 235 on the front and 255 on the rear

The rear required me to flip the quad shocks to avoid rubbing and the fronts rub on full lock.

If I were to redo my choices I wouldve went with a similar tire size all the way around and not a 17x9 wheel, I think 17x8 wouldve been perfect

Depends on backspacing and the car in general. I think you are seeing from this thread that over the years, these cars get modded and there are a lot of factors that determine what tire will fit.

I did a 5-lug conversion using stock (fox) length axles in the rear and sued the 10th anniversary 17x9 wheels with 275-40-17 and they were perfect. I've heard of others with the SN95 axles (wider) with the same wheel/tire combo and they too said that it fit, where I could not see how because mine was so close.
On the front, 275s could touch my fender lips just a little on a real hard bump - so they were a little oversized for the car.

What wheels do you have?
