Tire sizes for 17x9

There are many factors here that would come into play. Not everyone's car is going to be the same.

SOme guys are running 255's on a 17x9 and have no issues.

I run 235's on a 17x8 and have rub at full lock on my '88

Honestly, you need to look at your own car and find out what works for you.

What front suspension?

I got 235/45/17 for front and 245/45/17 for rear with my 5-lug conversion and I was hoping it wasn't going to rub. The bullitt springs only drop it slightly though, and i'll be running 94-95 spindles.

i am planning on doing the 5 lug conv too. but not for a good while. i want the frpp cobra kit but i can't afford it right now. i'm not one for doing things twice but rims CANNOT wait. i will just sell them when i'm ready. i really want the cobra r deep dish. but they don't make them in 4 lug. if they do,however i won't bother with the 5 lug. for what this car is used for and the availabillity of 31 spline axles for 4 lug,its pointless imo to change it out if i can get the rims i want. besides i can also put a rear disc on it too.

the rims i am getting have an 18mm offset. does anyone know how to convert that to inches so i would know what the back spacing is. if its 5- 5.5" of back space then i'll go with the 255"s.

It rubbed when i had Mark 7 rotors and then it rubbed even with the 94-95 spindles

Only rubs at FULL lock on the inner splash shields.

If you have aftermarket quads on the back such as KYB's they are thick the whole way through and flipping them wont give you extra clearance. I cannot run anything wider then a 245 on the back of my car with 9" wide rims or it WILL hit the quads.

255/17's front and 275/17's rear, lowered with steeda springs on an 87... yes i am brave... but no major rubbing issues, cept when my fat ass friends are in the car... damn the obese :nonono:
5.85" backspacing. 24mm offset.

why would anyone buy after market quads. its a waste, all u need is upr/lwr controls arms.

WHY you ask?

Becaase the stock units are POS and the newest pair on a fox is 13 years old. I got new KYB's for a good price and the difference they made compared to the 15 year old stockers is night and day. I suppose aftermarket shocks are a waste too, since all you need are upr/lwr control arms. I dont see aftermarket control arms in your sig either. So your telling people its all they need, but you dont have any yet???

easy there sparky.
i had a 2000 gt with aftermarket upr and lwr c/a's. so don't assume i don't know what i'm talkin about b/c u don't see them in my sig. that doesn't mean i don't have experience with them. i don't give false info. if i don't know i don't reply.its that simple.

quads are optional with upr and lwrs. it will help with wheel hop when u start putting down alot of h/p,but if ur trying to get wider tires under there and u need to make a sacrafice, than u really don't need them.

it seems to me that maybe u were told this before judging by the way u reacted to that statement and it pissed u off to hear it again. if u need hug i hear broke back mountain is giving tours again.:D :D j.k.

maybe i shouldn't have said that they were a waste, they're just not a nessitiy. so i appologize for that.

This myth really needs to die.

Quad shocks are important...so you should make every effort to leave them alone. AZ sells Gabriel replacements for $25 each that are pretty damn good.

EVEN with aftermarket control arms and such...run the quads.

If you want to run fat tires, then you need to decide if risking the chance of hop is worth removing them.

myth???? first of all ur never gonna get rid of wheel hop unless u go with a watts 4 link or back half the car. or something like that. even then top fuel and all inbetween still have wheel hop. its unstoppable. no stupid $25 quads is ever goin to stop it.

but some food for thought. maximum motorsports has been making mustang suspension components for i don't know how long. and their fox body is 3rd in the nation for best handleing.it pulled over 1.2 g's. so if they say its ok, than thats good enough for me. they have the engineers and road tests to back it up. i'll take their word for it. if it were so important don't u think they would be all over it. sorry. but u guys are missinformed. it is optional not a must do. but if u want them on there, then by all means. it is after all what u want and feel is good for u. and i'm not knocking u for it. thats how u guys feel and thats how i feel. to each his own. i'm not goin to tell anyone what to buy and what not to buy. if u really want to help slow wheel hop and stay on the street ,a torq arm and /or panhard bar is a good mod. sorry when it really comes down to it. qauds are a waste.jmo.

Max Motorsports is good, but i don't agree with them on this
