Is it worth it vs. selling it and getting a 03 or 04? I was thinking that new rods and pistons to gain strength and lower the compression. Adding a SC and assorted extras to make it work. Probably better off to sell and buy a newer cobra.

My two cents...

Running some quick numbers on KBB, your car is valued from 11-13k and a 03 Cobra is 21-25k. There are tons of variables here (mileage, trade in versus private sale, condition, ect), so this is just a reference. I have never seen a 03/04 Cobra in my area going for less than 24k.
If you got 13k for yours, that would mean you will spend around 10k more on a nice Terminator. Plus, your insurance will go up (got to keep the operating expenses in mind). You will already have a kick ass car, the block is iron, and all forged goodies. If it hasn't already been done, you can bolt on more horsepower easily down the road.
If you keep yours, you can probably get a supercharger and other required upgrades/goodies (fuel injectors, mass air meter, custom tune, ect) for 5k. I am not considering used parts here, but if have good luck or hook ups, that can always save you $$$. Throw in labor if your are not installing it yourself. This still leaves you with hyper pistons though, and your block will always be aluminum (not that it’s really an issue here). If you upgrade your pistons, rods, and other internals to forged, the parts will not be a lot (500-1000) but machine shops sure as hell are not cheap, and if you have ever done mod work before, you know there is ALWAYS something along the way that was not planned but must be repaired/replaced/upgraded.
Looking at the big picture, I would say selling your Cobra private party, and finding a well cared for 03/04 would be around the same price as upgrading. The newer Cobra will or can always be better than a modded 01.
Just my two Lincolns!

just a quick note.. not sure where you get your #'s but up here in the northeast 01 cobras closer to 20k with miles in the 40k range not sure where 11-13k comes from but if you can show me some id like to buy one or two.....

Just to clarify....

not sure where you get your #'s

My opening statement "Running some quick numbers on KBB". Kellys Blue Book, or www.kbb.com.

The 11-13k was the ESTIMATED BOOK value for a 01 Cobra ranging from trade in at a dealership, to selling it privately to an individual. Like I said, there are numerous variables, so this was just a reference figure. This was not the RETAIL SELLING price for an 01 Cobra. Hell, at that price, I'd buy everyone I could find.

I know what you mean. 50-60K miles people around detroit, MI are asking 24-25, while people with 1K-20K stock and modded, are asking 30+. I remember in the Fall of 2004, Russ Milne Ford had a handful maybe four or six 2003 or 2004 Cobras brand new for 26K. That is when I should have bought one. But I was impatient and supercharged mine eariler that spring. People are crazy.:nonono:
