what are you blower guys using for oil?

I use the seperator also...but never heard of synthetic being bad for a supercharger. I run a centri style charger, p-1sc, i wonder if its an issue for roots style that use same oil as car uses.

Prochargers are self-oiling. Kenne Bell twinscrews are self-oiling. Vortech/Novi blowers are NOT self-oiling; that is, they use a oil feed from the cars engine oil, and drain back into the pan.

Something about synth and how it can seep into seals or something makes it bad, I don't remember the exact reasons

I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure. PPM (parts per million) Synthetic is smaller than traditional oil, so i could see that making sense.

its recommended against because you'll typically get more blow-by with synthetic. I personally run Mobil 1 full synthetic and don't have any problems with it. Although I guess driving like a granny might have something to do with it...

what blower do you have? if its self contained it dont matter what engine oil you are running. this is only for centri, paxton and vortech.

yea you get more blow by through the seals with the synthetic. i guess the regular motor craft is the way to go. what weight oil for a blower, is it the same?

Roots blowers do not use the same oil as you run in your cars engine. They're self contained and use their own blower specific oil.

....I'd buy the GM stuff, it's about half the price of the Ford stuff.

thats true, the motorcraft is a synthetic blend, so that wouldnt be that good either. the dino oil, is that oil ok?

i mean is it good for the engine? that just means that there is no synthetic in it at all right?

valvaline is one?

Valvoline, Quaker State, Castrol, etc......all the big brands still make high quality versions of "Dino Oil" (non synthetic) I run the Quaker State myself. :)

Besides......there has yet to be any definitive proof to show a persons engine would last any longer running Synthetic oil all of it's life, versus conventional Petroleum based oil.

The particular supercharger itself isn't the reason why synthetic oil isn't recommended with a blown application, it's what happens with your engine that throws a wrench into things. Forced induction engines are more susceptible to blow by because of their elevated crank case pressures. Synthetic oil tends to get by the rings, seals, PCV valve, etc that much easier than conventional oil and a lot of users end up with all kinds of problems because of it. For one, you've got excessive consumption issues which are tough enough to control as it is with a Modular engine to have now worry about amplifying the problem. Secondly, since more of it is getting by, it more readily contaminates the intake components (Air inlet ducting, mass air sensor, air charge temperature sensor, throttle body, intake manifold, bypass valve, intercooler) making not only a real mess, but it leads to a less efficient after cooling of the air charge and can even lead to a reduction in fuel octane levels.

If someone insisted on not listening to reason and chose to continue running synthetic oil in their engine, I'd be very thorough about monitoring consumption levels and possible contamination of the system on a regular basis. CONSIDER OIL SEPARATORS MANDATORY!!!
