Can I get rid of this?

This is in the front passenger side fender near the firewall. What is it and can I remove it without any problems?

Well, that's a little hard atm. There is no motor in the car and I am removing useless junk while I get the underhood area ready for paint. I'm getting rid of alot of stuff, going manual rack, so I will loose the psp, losing the abs, so I have removed that already and when the car comes back, I will fab up some lines, cruise control etc but I'm not sure what this does. It's been a while, but I remember seeing something like this on my old coupe but just can't seem to remember what it is for and what problems/(solutions I'll have to come up with) I will have when I remove it.

Thanks Clark! I just finished removing it.

Here was another reply that was given to me on the corral if anyone else was wondering:

i removed all that sh-t without any problems. that stuff is for the charcoal canister and the canister purge solenoid. once u remove that stuff u can have those functions shut off in the computer through your tune. are u tuning with a chip?

Am I not seeing your picutre correctly? You removed the passenger fender liner and found those items right?

If so, the TAB, TAD and EVR are shown there (AIR/smog system and EGR). There's also a charcoal cannister on the firewall side of things. The purge solenoid (that I think was mentioned before) is in the engine compartment (passenger side of center, on the firewall).

Please let me know if I misinterpreted the picture or question.

What you are seeing is exactly like you discribe. I however have no clue what the items are other then what has been and what I posted in the quote.

So, what is a TAB, TAD and EVR for? Just for a bit of info for you, I have a FAST system (not the XFI) for the tune (not yet installed either). Don't know if that matters as to what problems I may have by removing that.

Thanks,
Terry

Terry, simply stated, the TAB and TAD (Thermactor Air Bypass and Thermactor Air Diverter. On 94-95's sometimes they use the nomenclature AM 1 and AM 2; Thermactor Air Management 1 and 2 but it's the same thing) are simply the control mechanisms for the Smog pump (you know how it pumps air to the back of the heads upon start-up and then diverts air to the cats once the cats light off.................). So that's all that is. If you have no AIR system (Smog pump) those two solenoids don't do much.

The EVR is the EGR Vacuum Regulator. It just regulates the vac signal to the EGR valve so the EGR valve can open in graduations (otherwise it would be all or nothing). If you don't have EGR, you probably don't need the EVR.

Terry, I'm fairly good at stock ECU and systems function. Now you have that nice fat set-up - I know nothing about that aftermarket ECU stuff, so I'll defer to the experts. I can say that for a stock computer, if you have no Smog pump or EGR valve, removing that stuff should not create issue (I'd venture to say that more people have removed it than not).

I didn't mean to sound rude earlier. I get a little irked when I see misleading or incomplete info.

Good luck with the project!

terry, sorry for the "wrong" info. its been awhile since i ditched that stuff but like i originally said if u aren't running any emissions then that stuff can go, especially if your not using a smog pump since thats what that stuff is for.

The EVR is not for the Smog pump.

Like I said before, I was not trying to ruffle feathers. Adrenalin and others obviously think a lot of you, but I think you'd agree that your originally quoted-post (from the Corral thread) was not as accurate as it could have been (the purge solenoid is not inside the fender in the first place, and the items that were depicted were not even mentioned by name). That was kinda what got me - had you worded things like Tom did, then I'd have had no issue with it.

Remember, people search and act based upon old posts, so it's nice to get things as precise [at face value - people don't know what rapport or previous knowledge you and Terry have of eachother's cars] as possible.

Happy Holidays

(And Tom, however untrue it is :p, thank you for the vote of confidence). :nice:

i completely agree that my original response from the corral was inaccurate, like i said, its been awhile since i had any of that stuff on my car and the exact name for those items slipped my mind. i know the original poster (adrenalin) is deleting all his emissions gear so thats the reason i told him to ditch it.
