My Engine build thread

Well as some of you may of known this winter I was going to be doing some motor work so this past week I unbolted everything off the engine so I could pull it today. Well its out and half apart, I'll finish that tmw but so far it looks to be in fairly good shape but I havent even pulled the pan yet, knock on wood. My plans are to just rebuild the bottom end, 306 if need be, custom comp blower cam, go over the heads with whatever they need, port match everything, and swap out the powerdyne for a S trim. so it should look like this:

Edelbrock performer intake
World products Sr heads
Custom Comp: int. exh.
gross valve lift .513 .513
[email protected] 224 230
adver. duration 276 282
lobe seperation 114.0
Fresh 302/306
S trim at around 12 psi

I will be posting my updates whever I have any, and more pictures. I have to say Iam very exicted about all this and cant wait to get it done for the spring. We have a car show at Mustangs Unlimited every year here in CT in April and I'd like to make it to that which shouldnt be asking for to much(knock on wood again). When its all said and done Iam going up to NED to see what it can do, Iam hoping for somewhere in the 11's. As for numbers I dont think 425 rwhp would be to far off. Any suggestions would be cool. I should have a new camera by the time Iam taking more pictures(besides tmw) unless someone on here knows why the pictures come out kinda blury. Thanks

Sheesh some of you guys are really good at working on cars. lol I dont know what your budget is but dude if your gonna build a new motor get your block all cleaned and bored out and jus throw a stroker crank in it while your at it. When my engine goes I see no reason to not increase the cubes while im at it.

nice engine lift ;)

is that a stock block? sheesh, that's pushing it (12 psi of boost). keep the pics up!

Thanks for the coments, the tractor worked fine to pull it out as you can see. As for the boost, it is gonna be the stock block not saying that its going to have to be at 12 psi but thats a reasonable guess for what Iam aiming to do and Iam going to be keeping it under the limit anyways.

Here is a update:
Engine went to the machine shop last friday, talked for awhile with the builder and he is going to give me a call at the end of this week with what needs to be done to the block. Iam also having the heads and intake port matched while Iam doing this, and possibly porting the exhaust side depending on how the heads flow.

Bought a S trim from a guy on corral and sold my powerdyne for much more then
I thought I would get for it.

I have until Jan. 2nd off so I started doing alittle work on the engine compartment today by hiding wires, hood latch release, and afew vacuum hoses. By the end of tomorrow Iam going to aim for having the S trim, Upper intake, and afew various parts clean and have 90% of the wire hiding done also. I have to decide what battery box to get because after seeing the engine compartment without it, it would be nice to put it in the hatch.

Also have to get ahold of a local guy who Iam hoping can powdercoat afew brackets and my powerpipe for me.

Would have got some pictures but the batteries in my camera are dead so Ill have to go out tonight or tmw morning to get some and post up afew pictures.

i agree....thats what i ended up doing

A stroker crank isn't worth the money in a stock block seeing how you can easily make enough power to split the block while keeping it a 302. If the goal was to be a n/a hero, then yeah, stroker would be the way to go. But, making 400+ will be a piece of cake with his combo.

Bingo, got some more stuff done today..... At the angle I took the first picture you can barely see the AC bracket and dont mind the dust on the discharge tube in the second picture.
