Will the magnaflow catted x be too loud?

Hi,

I've got a 2003 GT with a the regular magnaflow catback exhaust. I went against the magnapack because the car is a daily driver so I figured I would error on the side of being too quiet.

Now one of the cat's on my stock h pipe is starting to rattle and I'm debating whether I should just change it out for another stocker or should upgrade to the magnaflow catted x. My only worry with the catted x is that it will be too loud for my daily highway commute. Any thoughts?

I had an O/R X-Pipe and a Borla Stinger Cat-back...with over 400HP to the wheels on my daily driver and I didn't think it was too loud.

Amazingly, it will actually be a bit quieter and a lot smoother.

This is my opinion, maybe someone has a different experience. I found out first hand. I have an '02 GT w/ the stock catted H-pipe and the regular Magnaflow Cat-Back, and my buddy has a '02 GT w/ the Magnaflow Catted X-pipe with the regular Magnaflow Catback. We took both cars out for a spin. My car was actually a little louder than his. My exhaust had a lot more "muscle" sound, while his sounded, like everyone says, more exotic and very smooth, almost too smooth. The Magnaflow Catted X seemed to take the "muscle" sound out of it. I was dead set on the Magnaflow catted X until I heard his. Now I am going to buy a MAC Catted H-pipe instead. I want something a little louder, which I think the MAC will do.

To answer your question our question about if it will be too loud for your daily commute...no, it will be just as quiet.

Here's a lame video that I did when I switched out the headers. I didn't get on it since my cousin's grandfather was sitting on the front porch. Eventually I'll make a better vid... eventually.

It seems that everyone has a different version of loud. I say that this setup is proably the quietest(but louder then stock) aftermarket set up that still gives decent gains.

As for daily driving, the sound is a very deep tone, i think its easy to tune out.

Another thing to consider is passing State Inspections, if you have them where you live. An O/R pipe will not pass, while a catted X might. Now if you don't mind switching back to your stock pipes (you will need to save them) everytime inspection comes around, then go for the O/R pipe. I have the Magnaflow catted X with the High flow catbacks and think it sounds good. It's louder than stock but it's not O/R loud.

I have that set-up, with shortys now. Its sounds great. Pretty loud but not loud enough enough to make the neighbors hate you or to get pulled over. Perfect for me. My car sounds really bass-y low in the rpms and sounds very smooth at high rpms. I have a vid I can email you or maybe someone can be bothered to host it.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I think the catted x is for me versus the o/r because of inspections.
007, can you send that video to [email protected]?

It's interesting that everyone says that it sounds smoother and deeper with the catted x. That's what I am looking for, don't want any raspiness, etc.

I think it's a tiny bit louder then the stock H but I think it changes the tone and adds a nice kick in the pants powerwise more then anything.

What's up Jeff? I wanted to check in and say hi. It's been a couple of years. The Mach still looks good.

I got sick of my car's lack of power, had an '03 Cobra for a day, and after considering power adders for the GT decided to get another bike. Quickest way to 9 sec timeslips lol.

I have a catted X and magnapacks and I think it's perfect....its not raspy at all, but it's loud enough. Only REALLY loud at WOT, otherwise just a nice rumble that can be heard a few cars away.

Sup mang, couple years, lol, yea Cobras are sick, my good friend has one, there's always somebody faster and seems like every other family sedan or R-burner these days has darn near 300 hp. So I pretty much have just learned to appreciate the Stang I have. Your Stang is sweet btw, plus u have a bike if u really wanna dust some foos lol.

That's what I love about this setup, like it's not that loud when cruising but when u mash it the 4.6 just screams. Like on the highway tachin around 5,000 rpms it sorta feels like a nascar comin around turn 2, people just get out of the way lol. But I can sorta keep it under the radar of the fuzz and what not when just driving around town. Though it's weird cause the car seems quiet to me when crusing but people say on the outside it's really loud and can hear me from a ways away even if I'm not driving in ludicrous mode.
