Floor Jacks

What brand and load capacity of floor jack do you guys use? I am looking at buying a new one and have had 2 bad experiences with craftsman stuff. I have saw some good online reviews of the Torin Big Red, that they sell at Pepboys. Anyone know about the jacks at Harbor Freight? Any other Brands?

I am looking to spend $200 or less. My car sets fairly low in the front so I need something with a minimum height of 4" or less.

I suggest going to your local wal mart supercenter, I picked up 3 aluminum 3000LB racing floor jacks for $58.00 each, they had been $88.00, thought it was a heck of a deal!

I wouldn't buy any tools from harbor freight, unless you want them to fall apart or not work.

I have a craftsman jack that works fine. Also have a little Larin one from Autozone

I bought this jack 2 years ago and I haven't had any problems with it. Nothing heavy duty, but I use it quite a bit.

I got got a 2-tone aluminum jack for x-mas and so far love it. Light weight, rolls nicely, let's down slow and easily if I want, and I also have a 2 1/4 ton jack i've had for about 5 years also craftsman. No complaints personally.

new one....this get's under the car nicely as well, I have the eibach sportlines so i wanted low profile as well.

Those are the same ones I had. The smaller one lasted about 2 years and the 2 ton racing jack last just one a year. I maybe used them 10 -15 times a piece.
I don't doubt that you have had no problems, but I also did a search online and craftsman jacks have alot of complaints. I see they convienantly removed the bad reviews from the sears website. Too bad they don't have the same warranty as thier tools.

Yep. They have some good deals but you have to be careful.

I would recomend any credible brand but the 6 ton ones. They are a lot sturdier than the cheaper ones.

I was working on my dad vette when a cheap 2 ton set gave away. End of story.

I have an Allied 2 1/2 ton floor jack I got from Sam's club. Cost was about $70+. It is very heavy, looks like what you would use in a commerical garage. My only complaint is that it seems to bleed down very slowly under load. That isn't a big problem, since I always use jackstands.

Harbor Freight is a good place to get jackstands and tools like hammers and prybars. Think of them as a blacksmith type of tool shop.

yeah, the little jack has been great for me, I just hope the aluminum one is as good. I don't blame you though, if i have the problems with 2 of the same brand products i'm ready for something new as well. good luck

It's a Michelin 2-ton Jack. It's fairly inexpensive, $50 CAD.

I have one of their 3000 lb aluminum jacks for about 3 years now. I use it a lot. Beat it pretty hard. Works great. Picks up the front of the heavy arse 03 Cobra with no problem. Now anything electrical from Harbor Freight is another thing.

i have a 3.5 ton michelin jack i bought from Sam's Club for $60 a few years ago. the only problem i've had with it, is the handle is hard to loosin (lowering the jack) sometimes

Ehhh i kinda have to disagree on this one..

I bought a set of 1/2 " drive standard and metric impact sockets. ive had them for going on 5 years now, and i havent had 1 crack, shatter or round out inside. i have also gotten prybars, breaker bars and a few other items with no problems to date. If you want quality wrenches and handtools, id go somewhere else, but for impact sockets, prybars and things of that nature, you cant really beat it.

Im in the market for a new Jack and jackstands as well right now. I have seen too many jackstands bend at the legs or have the neck bend, so im not skimping out on those... the last thing i want is to get squished from saving a few bucks.
