my main question is, can a shifter be too short for daily driving? i've driven 1 car (01 gt) with a short throw, and dont know the brand on it.

whats the timed install on a shifter? any comments about a shifter is more then welcome. im looking to buy a gt soon and already planning mods!

i have owned a MGW and a Pro 5.0. i hate the pro 5.0 and i loved the MGW. i will be buying another one shortly

I just installed your old one - FREAKIN SHORT! LOL :nice: The blue handle is almost too far to reach, red is pretty good though :D

I really liked the UPR shifter I had in there previously (tri-ax clone) but after a year it was worn out - I highly doubt the tri-ax's wear out that fast though. My friend had a tri-ax, I liked it ok.

MGW for the win! :flag:

i just recently installed an MGW on my stang and man do i love it. the shifts are very short and i dont do anymore reaching to grab gears like teh stock shifter. Its also 360* adjustable. My buddy had a B&M on his old 99 and then drove mine with teh MGW and he said there is no comparison. Get the MGW you wont be dissappointed.

Install time took about an hour because i couldnt find the dang razor blades to scrap off the old gasket. That was teh hardest part. Its really straight forward though. Just becareful when you take apart the center console not to break any of the clips i think i might have and now its sorta loose lol. O well i guess, atleast my shifts are shorter.

took you long enough to put it on.lol

i miss that shifter:(

i drove a GT with a T56 and a tri ax the other day and it is ok but nowhere as good as mgw

The old blue handle MGW was the shortest shifter you could get. I luv the shortness of the handle and it's shifts. No far reaching for me in any gear. I'm sure the also extinct red, and new orange handles are good, but my blue handle rules. Very quiet, very firm shifts.

I have a Steeda Tri Ax shifter on my mustang and I like
the way it shifts and the feel of it.Everyone on this board
will tell you to get a MGW.I think the Steeda Tri Ax is just
as good as the MGW.

+1

I have the MRT shifter on mine, which is a Tri-Ax clone (even has Tri-Ax cast into the handle) and like it just fine. The MGW was not yet in production when I bought the shifter I currently have about three years ago, and while the MGW may very well be better, I am not going to change or need to change the one I have to find out.

You can also currently get a silver handle. You can ask for it when you call. They refer to it as the "race" handle. It is pretty short, but I love it! It is supposed to be 1/2 inch shorter in both directions than the orange handle.

I vote MGW. I haven't owned anything other than the MGW but after driving the stock on my new fox and then going back to the MGW in the 89 I'm selling the difference was night and day. The install can vary, on an SN95 it shouldn't be too bad since the cars are newer. On my 89 it was a major PITA because I had to take out most of the interior to reach bolts.

That's really cool. I had heard about a shorter handle for the orange handle, but had'nt heard of anyone that had gotten one. :nice:
