My macanic just informed me that he's afraid the rear axle on my stock 1965 coup may be damaged :bang:
Won't know for sure till he breaks the car down...anyone know where I can get another rear axle? I'm in Maryland. Also, is there anything I might considering doing to the car while the axle is being done? The car is a daily driver.

Thanks for your help!!

More detail would help. How, exactly, does the mechanic say the axle is damaged? Is the housing cracked, or perhaps just in need of new gears and/or a rebuilt differential? If it's a V-8 car with the "removable carrier" type axle assembly, you may not be looking for an entire axle. Six-cylinder cars had a lighter-duty integral-carrier axle which, if damaged, should probably be replaced with a sturdier 8" unit. Which do you have?

Sorry, for the lack of info. Its a early '65 V8.

I guess I'm sorta jumping the gun a little. Still waiting to hear exactly what is going on inside. All I know at the moment is the wheel bearing went bad on the passenger-side rear wheel and the macanic's words were, "I have a bad feeling the axle may be damaged". So if luck is on my side its fine, but if not I wanted to start getting an idea of how hard it would be to get replacment parts. I know my way around the front of the car but when it comes to the rear I'm pretty clueless. I've driven the car every day for the past 13 years and its never had any rear end work...so it may be time.

Thanks for any input!

Hopefully I'll be able to find parts a little closer then NC, but if not I'll let ya know.
