Why does my LMAF only have 4 pins?

The only Ford MAF that is a one for one swap into a 5.0 Mustang is the 94-95 Mustang 70 MM MAF. The calibration for all the larger Ford MAF's isn't close enough to do a good job.

The 2 extra pins on many of the other MAF sensors are for the ACT.

The jumper or pin count isn't the problem, it is the calibration of the MAF sensor element to the housing and to match the computer's internal program. Without a tweecer or custom dyno tune & chip, there is no way that the calibration will be right. MAF's are not interchangeable between sizes with the limited exception of the 70 MM 94-95 Mustang MAF.

JRichker is right.
You will need a custom tune to run the LMAF.

IIRC, the LMAF does not utilize all of the plugs. There are a couple of dead spots.

How are you planning on doing the tune...

Sorry to highjack your thread. If you are using the 6 pin meter and the addition 2 pins are for ACT, is this a better reading for ACT than in the intake?? I am currently using a PMAS blow thru with 6 pins, 2 of which I am not using are capped off. Thanks

Because Ford used the ACT in our computers based on it being located in the intake, I feel it would be best to leave the ACT in the intake. Moving it closer to the MAF would change the way the ACT affected ignition timing advance and fuel PW's.

With that said...
Many guys have had to move the ACT to the intake tract, and reported no ill effects.

I just don't think it would be worth it...

not to be a dic$ guys, but you are all answering questions that im not asking and already know the answer to. i know about the plugs, the car is getting tunned yada, yada. IS THE 01-04 LMAF SUPPOSED TO HAVE 6 PINS INSIDE OF THE METER?

Yes the meter is supposed to have 6 pins in the housing for the plug. You should be using the 4 center ones. When I did my conversion to the 90mm LMAF and 42lb inj. I bought the plug that fit the meter and then spliced & soldered the wires into the the factory harness. What I was thinking of doing was using the other 2 pins for a 2nd air temp sensor in the discharge tube before the TB to help the tune the car.

thats how mine is, whats the deal?

Ford wouldn't develop a new 4 plug harness just for a single application.
Most likely, all six weren't needed for the LMAF, but may have been needed in another application that the same plug was used for.

Look at all of the plugs on the Mustang. It isn't uncommon to find a couple of dead connectors in a plug.
The computer plug is a great example of this.
