Low 13's

I have a friend that I go to Cecil County with that has a 06 GT 5Spd that went 13.4@103 on stock 18bfg's in 100% stock form. The same car with 16 inch bfg drag radials went 13.2@103 with only 1.96 60ft. After his first pass on dr's I think it messed up bushings in control arms. When you rev it up a little and take off it bangs hard in back of the car. It does this even with the regular street tires now. If he put control arms on I think he could possibly go another tenth or two faster with nothing but dr's. Can you say 13oh's with just dr's? Maybe even 12.9's.

I personally witnessed a bone stock '06 AUTO go 13.4 - 13.5 all day at Atco raceway in November, so I have no problems believing that Evan Smith drove a 5 spd to the same times or better.
Heck, it was my first time ever racing a manual equipped car, and I went 13.8's without slipping the clutch at all, just launch and bog. These 3V's love to run.

Was it totally bone stock, or was it "bone stock" as in it had a basic tune that firmed up the shifting line pressures and adjusted the shift scheduling, revlimiters, and perhaps even spark? If it was genuinely factory bone stock, then that is very respectable especially for a 5-speed (auto). The 5-speed (manual) is pretty nice and I've speed shifted it on the road a few times w/o much difficulty. On rev-matched upshifts, the 5-speed (manual) is so smooth that a passenger wouldn't have felt the change in gear. :)

It was "BONE STOCK", not even a tune. Had 1,000 miles on the car.

The car I was talking about was stock. As far as I know, only Supra drivers refer to stock, "stock", stock++.
The auto equipped cars are perfect for drag racing.

I just installed the SCT X-2 from Brenspeed this afternoon in my '06 Auto. All I did was plug in the 87 octane tune(Since I still had over 1/2 tank left). I increased the shift pressure in all gear changes by 5%. All the other parameters were already set by Brent. The rev limiter raised to 6800 RPM, and no spark adjustments. It is a totaly different car now:nice: . Now all I have to do is ease into the gas and away she goes!!!!! WOT off the line just lights the rear up now(kinda cool, but SUCKS), no brake torque needed anymore for a quick launch. Before all it would do was like 3 or 4 chirps. Now when it shifts at WOT it kicks, it won't turn 'em over, but you can feel the positive shift and it keeps on pulling hard to the next gear change. I have not run my car at a track yet and I have the WMS CAI sitting in the garage awaiting install tomorrow so I will not have a stock time to compare it with. Oh well, thems the breaks... To sum it up, a stock Auto with just a tune MAY be able to squeak out some of those really decent times listed in this thread.

P.S. No more throttle hang either with the tune!!!!! The RPMs drop really fast.

I went to Orlando Speedworld tonight with my 2007 GT/CS 5 speed and ran 14.29 and 14.26 respectively. I have Borla stinger axlebacks as my only mod. The temperature was about 48 degrees (yes this is Florida). However I could get no traction. I would like to know how you can run 13's stock on the street tires? I am new as far as drag racing but I think the track had problems. There were 3 mazda rotarys that blew up and spilt fluids all over the track. I launched at 2500 rpms and slipped the clutch out. My tires showed 25 psi after letting air out but I feel as though maybe it was more than 25.

I have no doubt i can get my stock vert into 13's.I run a Fontana which isnt a very fast track. In a very bad headwind, i still ran a 14.2. I have found launching at 1500-2000 results in better 60 ft times.I have a little more clutch time now, so i feel confident 13's are within reach next time out.

Are there more dyno facilities that allow you to run the 1/4 mile on their rollers? I recall someone on TMS having that capability. I think that is a neat way of operating a "1/4 mile" track without causing trouble for neighbors and so you can get bragging rights for your car the fast way without wearing out your tires or brakes.

Why not do a computer simulation, keep your car in the garage so it doesn't get dirty and call it a day?
The fun is in driving the car.
There is much more than horsepower and gearing that goes into running an actual 1/4 mile run for time.

In the Vid, Evan Smith stated he revved the motor to 5 grand, then launched by slipping the clutch.

Evan is a great and expereinced racer. I believe he spent alot of time in the Factory Stock class which meant he had to hone his driving skills to gain every last ounce of performance from what very few and basic mods that were allowed by the rules. Just about the whole staff at MM&FF are that way. They are a hardcore magazine that is not afraid to put a car through its paces during testing. Most of all the other car mags have to make sure they turn the keys back over to a functional car at the end of the day. MM&FF, I read has broken many parts on cars while extrating every last bit of performance out of our beloved Mustangs as they can.
I will be running mine this year at the track for sure, but will not have ANY times to compare it to being stock. By the time I run I will I have O/R H and 4.10s to add to my already WMS CAI and SCT custom tune. Being an automatic on street tires I guess I will be WISHING to break into the 12's. I may have to think about a set of street drag radials to do so. I can't wait to get to the track when it opens up.
