My wife got a parking ticket in Aloha from a company called Northwest Parking Control. I don’t want to get into specifics. I just want to see what my options are. If you know a decent laywer (not trying to be funny), please post up or PM me.

Thanks.

A private company? Forget about it - they don't even know who you are. Did you notice there's no information on the "ticket" that the writer couldn't get by just looking at your car? That's cuz they don't have any way of obtaining owner info. They aren't the cops, they can't run your plates.

"Tickets" issued by non-government entities aren't legally enforceable short of a lawsuit (your wife was parked on their property, presumably). "Northwest Parking Patrol" has no intention of suing anyone. They put that official-looking note on your wife's windshield in hopes of tricking you into paying. Throw it away.

Sounds about right. Don't bother with talking to a lawyer until NWPP's lawyer talks to you or you get an official notice in the mail from the city or government office regarding the ticket. The issuing company are a bunch of nobodies in terms of having any form of authority.

At this one place I worked back in the day, they would issue tickets to people who were improperly parked. If multiple tickets were issued that went unpaid, they would then have your car towed. In the end all you would have to really pay is the cost of picking up your car from the tow company. If you paid your "parking ticket" then the infraction was tossed out and you could get another strike so to speak until you got towed.

LOL another time I got a parking ticket in CANADA. Yeah, good luck trying to get me to pay that ticket. I laughed as I pulled it off my windshield and threw it in the trash. Oh noes, teh Canadian military is gonna come for me and make me pay the ticket!!!1

Hmmmm..... I wonder what happens if you get stopped for a traffic infraction the next time you're up there. Or if the next time you cross the border, if your trip will end with "Please pull your car over there, eh?"

I don't have any lawyer help for you, but I just noticed the 67 in your signature. That is a beautiful car! :nice:

Thanks

Stupid handicap spots.

LOL

They do know. And because of the way the letter is addressed, I assume they got it from DMV.

NWP has a collection agency contacting me. That is why I want to talk to a lawyer.

The company usually buys the info from DMV and then they try and charge you for it. More than likely it is listed in addition to the price of what the ticket is. Sorry I do not have any lawyer info for you though.

So, you got a ticket and hired a $150/hr lawyer, and he didn't win your case. Is that why you didn't give a name?

I hired a lawer a couple of times and he did win all of my cases, and one of them was a neg. but that was about 7 years ago, and I don't know if he works there anymore or what it will cost now. But it was at Webber and Gunn. So good luck.

Dude, how much could the ticket possibly be for? It couldn't be that much why don't you just pay it. A lawyer is like $150 an hour, and your parking ticket is more than that?
I know that it would have cost me a lot more to hire a lawyer to fight my speeding ticket than it would have been to just pay it after it was reduced. I guess it all depends on how much the ticket is and how much the lawyer is to see if it is worth hiring one to fight it.

If it's cheaper, then go for it. If not and the ticket was issued due to you being at fault then it might be less of a headache to pay it. A parking ticket shouldn't affect insurance rates or anything at all IIRC.

MOST COMPLETE INFORMATION ON NW PARKING CONTROL (and affiliated creeps)

I also parked in the Uptown Shopping Center yesterday (4-12-09). I was in Starbucks for UNDER AN HOUR when I look out the window and see a bright orange ticket on my windshield. I was patronizing a business listed on the ‘approved’ sign for the entirety of my parking stay. The ticket was for $34!

Like you said, there is this “administrative” fee attached that apparently covers the cost of them buying your name and address from the DMV for collection, should you not pay promptly… And it appears from others experiences they DO send you to collections for this trivial amount.

The website for NW Parking Control is:
Northwest Parking Control - Portland Oregon - To Pay and Appeal Notices

No contact information is listed…BUT, when I trace their WHOIS info through GoDaddy I get this:
Administrative Contact:
Thompson, Brian [email protected]
Northwest Parking Control
P. O. Box 19786
Portland, Oregon 97280
United States
9715440445

NOTE: the phone number listed (which is a Portland area code) has been disconnected. I have no idea if the address is valid for mail.

The ONLY info at Northwest Parking Control’s site says, “Nationwide Debt Recovery has the authorization to except payments and appeals for NW Parking Control.” and to call: “Nationwide Debt Recovery: 1-800-399-0563″ or visit their site at:
http://www.nwdrs.com/

ULTIMATELY, a third entity, apparently ParkingNotice.com, handles the tickets after they are issued, but before they are submitted for collections. This site has the function of looking up your ticket for payment online, but it couldn’t find mine the day after issue (they say it could take up to 48 hours). There is a "dispute" function that takes one to fours weeks to complete, during which time your account is supposedly "on hold"...but I will see what happens when I get there:
ParkingNotice.Com

I am currently unemployed and have LOTS of time to make these guys lives miserable… Please share your story with these creeps if you have dealt with them!

Here is the scoop from my wife who is an underwriter. If you don't pay they send it to collections and it shows up on your credit report and now your car insurance and mortgage rate go up because you are a bad risk. Fight it or pay it.
