Opinions on these pullies and smog elim

Hello everyone it's tax time again so I will have a little money to play with here soon and was considering buying some ASP aluminum underdrive pullies and an ASP smog pump idler pulley. Me and the wifes car is our fair weather cruiser and we like it to have enough power to try and keep the chebbies at bay. So far it has 3.73 gears, K&N filter with the silencer removed, Mac offroad H, aftermarket mufflers, bumped timing etc.- etc.

The air tubes from the back of my smog pump have been removed all the way to the H pipe and the back of my heads are plugged. Would I make a decent gain from the underdrive pullies?, I realize I wont see a gain from the smog pump pulley and I am basicly just doing that for looks.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, I already tried the short belt thing and within a few days my tensioner bottomed out and started making a loud clacking sound from under the hood that about gave me a heart attack lol. I would prefer to just spend the money on the eliminator and not have to worry about that again. Do you guys think their would be a noticable gain from the underdrives?

for how much you pay for under drives they are worth it. Everyone that has them never regretted getting them(for the most part). I love mine, i also have the smog pump eliminated with the dummy pulley and its great

hey as far as that shorter belt its a great money saver, i did the same thing and i got that ticking noise from it bottoming out, but i didnt have a/c or the smog pump, and i had an 82 1/2 inch belt on there, then i went down to an 82inch belt and it worked fine, the trick is that the last pulley you have to put the belt on is the waterpump because it has that rounded front side and the belt just kinda slides over it, that way the belt doesnt have to clear the lip of a grooved pulley..now i know you said you just want to elimenate the smog pump but im sure it will work the same but just a different size belt

I NEVER bought underdrives...my car had cooling and charging issues stock so I didnt want to make it worse. They make kits where you can underdrive certain accessories and overdrive others. Like mentioned above, find a way to bypass the smog Etc...you;ll see a gain but your waterpump and alternator will still work well.

If you had problems with the tensioner bottoming out then the belt was too long.

I removed the smog pump on mine and just ran a shorter belt without a problem. I also installed MAC underdrive pullies at the same time.

To get the right belt size: Cut your old belt and then have a friend hold the tensioner out all the way while you run the belt through the system. When you get to the beginning, just mark and measure it. There's your belt size.
