Spotted a '90 4cyl auto 'vert this afternoon in town. I've been casually looking for a while, and this popped up on a lot a few blocks from here. They're asking $2600, here's the details. Two owner, original owner traded it in 8 years ago for a Blazer, elderly couple bought it and traded it in at the same lot yesterday. Body and underbody appear very straight and clean. Took it for a drive and it ran/rode nice for a 124,000 mi. car. Interior is very clean with obvious convertible upholstry fading. My overall concern is that the top is shot. I am told it is the original top. Rear windows bind and won't go down (does the top need to be down?), weather stripping is really rough but didn't make much noise at 55mph. Cruise and power acc. seem to work alright. Here are some pics. I've never owned a fox vert, give me some ammo folks. Where should I start the bickering?

That is nearly identical to my 91 vert 5 speed.
Right down to needing a top.
My AC is not working right now, but I am asking 1500.
I know distance is a factor (I'm in East Texas) but just my opinion.
2600 might be a good price with a new top...use it as a bargaining tool.

It seems a bit high to me...I bought my 92 last Oct for $2200 @ 124,000 miles. Everything works great and the top is only a year old....my interoir is NOT faded. I thought I got a fair deal, as they were asking $2500.

If I wanted it, I think I would go back at $2000 even, or have them put on a top....just my opinion....good luck

ugghh, no way. that car is worth about 800 tops.
top is shot and has no headliner you are looking around 600-800 to have that replaced.did you test the top? does it go up and down smoothly?
rear window motors wont go down. if you do the work yourself the motors cost 75.00 each from 5.0 resto so there is 300
weather stripping is bad. the cheapest I have seen a complete kit go for is about 300.
from the one side of the car you have shown me it has 2 different kinds of paint on it. a clear example the car has been hit. also its a midwest car so I would check the trunk area for rust, especially in the spare tire compartement, dont be afraid to peel back some carpet. look under the car. how do the frames look?open the doors and look into the fenders. these are big hiding spots for rust and once it starts these cars go quickly.
so far you are looking at 1200 just to fix the top and the windows and those are very conservative estimates.
I would take a pass on this one. it looks like a solid car to start with, but the 4cyl market just isnt that strong.if you really want a vert then I would hit the classifieds and buy one from a private individual. they are usually far less disillusioned as to how much the car is worth.

i see you don.t have dis ignition,,thats what i like about those earlier years,i don't like 91 and up models, for that reason only,it has the steel oil pan probably also,i heard the ones with the aluminum pans 91 and up you have to watchout as the oilpan gasket has a rubber oil ring that breaks up and plugs up the oil pump,,just talk the price down and you'll have a trusty convertible with a distributor, watch out for the ign switch, not the key switch,,,they go bad on these years its a 30 dollar part, they melt and lose contact and the car won't start,,i have two convertibles87 and a 89plus a 89 hatchback i would never sell them, they are fun to own very darn reliable, relbuilding a distributor is very easy, some may prefer d.i s ignition,,maybe its better ,,but i just don't care for it

My 91 has the DIS....let me just say "We are not amused!"
op
Trying not to put money in DIS as I will be pulling motor very soon.

Just me but I would be hesitant to pay over $2000 for it WITH a new top.

There is a red and a green 4cyl at used car lot down street from me. I dont think either one are bad and tops look good and they want IIRC about $1799.

I think $2600 is too much. If I really liked it I would be very hesitant to go over $2000 but would probably go to $2200 if I liked it.

I would shop around for a better deal first, and maybe consider travelling a short distance to get one.

Outside looks ok, maybe you need to estimate the costs of top and other repairs. I picked up a 92 4cyl with 40k orig miles for 4k. And had offers for 5k next day, of course this car needed nothing. It looked like a showroom conv in Silver. Add some Cobra chrome wheels and it's a real neat Stang
