THIS FORUM IS DYING OUT. MAYBE IT'S TIME TO START CALLING AROUND AGAIN FOR A SHELBY FOR MSRP. THIS CAR HAS REALLY LOST IT'S BUYERS APPEAL SOME WHAT. NOW US POOR GUYS CAN AFFORD ONE.

The dealers are not going to give up without a fight. All they see is a chance to make a big profit today with no thought of how things will shake out tomorrow.

I remember back to the Terminator and Mach 1 days.
A local dealer got in 3 Mach 1s at almost the same time.
The 1st sold immediately for $5,000 above sticker.

Then the dealer advertised the 2 remaining Mach 1s for months. The 2nd sold for $2K over MSRP about 3 months later.

The 3rd sat on their lot forever (8 months). They advertised it everywhere (with ADM), local newspapers, bargain shoppers, internet, etc. It finally sold for a big discount + Ford rebate.

If the dealer had been smart enough to sell the 3rd Mach 1 for sticker or a small discount, they would have sold it a right away and made a lot more profit on it. Plus Ford wouldn't have to put a rebate on it.

You are right. I bought a new 2003 Mach 1 that sat on my dealer's lot for a year. It started out at $5,000 over sticker. Every month or so I would ask if he was ready to deal. I finally bought it for $23,000 (tax included). I wish I still had it. I was asked $20,000 a year ago for a used one. That was after I traded mine in and got $19,000 for it with 1,000 miles on the odometer. The dealer said the original buyer had paid $5,000 over sticker and thought $20,000 was a great price.

The GT500 is so expensive I just dont care about it anymore-

I used to be excited and was actually thinking of buying one-

Now I just dont care- but I still pop my head in here every once in a while just to see if the prices have come down at all-

Even if they do- I dont know if I want one anymore-

I'm the same way, now I really don't care about the GT-500 anymore. I'll never own one (unless used prices crash) so who cares?

The window on "hot new cars" is really small. Look how the Ford dealers screwed up sales of the 2 seat T-Bird. The bubble has already burst on Chrysler 300s. 18 months ago the local dealers were asking $5K ADMs on the 300Cs. Now all the dealers around me are loaded with 300Cs. There are still many leftover 2006 300Cs still on dealer lots in spite of $5K dealer cash. On a recent Chrysler dealer teleconference Chrysler marketing proposed a "Free Hemi" promotion for this spring. Regular Mustang GTs now have rebates and there are still dealers with leftover 06 GTs on their lots. Just like everything else, the GT-500 bubble will burst too.

I guess it's time to change my avatar.

I think it was a great concept....Ford just priced it too high. Overshot the demographic. Long live the Terminator!

I don't think its over... Yes, the price will drop (like it should). Ford lost a chance to build on their base market and bring new owners into the fold. Slow production and the impression of being a 'true collector' will be the shadow that this car stays under. I know I went the Saleen route because I was tired of the dealer BS, and while everyone know what the Shelby was, only 2 dealers in my state were getting the Saleen PJ, and I knew more about it than them (and still do...)

Anyway, these things will get to the customers that are left and patient enough to pay MSRP... I think it'll never go below MSRP just because the Shelby hype, and at MSRP its a good deal. But wait until the 'next big thing' comes from Shelby or SVT or Ford or whatever, and this rare model won't be as special.

I definitely feel for the guys that paid 65k and over. They better plan on being buried in this car, cause it'll take that long or longer to ever see that money again.

Hate to say it, but this is supposed to be a Tech section on the GT500 and all it really is, is a bitchfest on the price of the cars or why buy it over or not buy it over this or that.

I come here once in a while hoping to read some tech on the car, but there really is none to speak of.

Agreed

To the original poster: THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS THE ONE RIGHT NEXT AND JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE "A" KEY.

Give it a shot.
