Go a G-force kit in your t-5 they work great and handle good power. They're lighter and eat up less horsepower. If you have the right clutch set-up, firewall adjuster and quadrant a z-rated kit in your t-5 will handle 300hp. I pushed my z-rated t-5 with 500rwhp and made at least 20 passes on 8.5 in. slicks 1.48 60ft and never broke it. Most of the time trannies get hurt by driver failure if you make a bad shift even great transmissions break. Save the power shifting for the track or when your racing somebody it's just plain hard on parts. Ask Walt at pro-motion and see what trans and clutch set up he recommends. If you can save some dough on your trans you can put it towards your h/c/i combo.

I wouln't replace the factory t-5 with anything less than a 3550. A z-rated t-5 is rated barely above what a factory t-5 is....and both are pushing the limit's with the stock 5.0's torque rating. The failure in the t-5's is quite often not attributed to driver error. The are know to have manshaft flex as well as a weak case. 3rd is the problem gear...and once you start pushing decent torque levels through it...it can let go with no effort.

Yeah my 3rd was making the death whine and soon after 2nd started too. My 1st gear synchro was going out. After pulling it apart I found the 1-2nd slider and 2nd gear was pretty beat, 3-4 shift fork was cracked... just as a whole the tranny was just old and tired.

HUH, WHAT? SPEAK UP, I CAN'T HEAR YOU! (jk)

Nevermind the fact the G-force T-5 rated the same as the TKO600 will make your ears bleed (straight cut gears), my 600 makes a little noise, but nothing that people are like WTF is that?!?!

LOL, my wife hated the TKO600. I replaced my busted T45 (I know, a broken T45 in a Cobra, what are the odds:rlaugh: ) with a TKO600 and she thought the new tranny was broken too. "Is it supposed to sound like that?" she asked.
Yeah, they whine more than stock trannys, but it is about the toughest thing out there for the public. It costs less than a T56 and will handle more power (T56s are rated from 330-550 ft/lbs depending on the model).
To make driving more enjoyable, you gotta use a good shfiter and top quality lube. Tremec recommends the following...

TR-3550/TKO - GM Synchromesh or Dexron III
TR-3650/T-45/T-5 - Dexron III
T-56 (Ford and GM) - Dexron III
T-56 (Viper only) - Castrol Syntorque

I had a Pro 5.0 shifter which was OK, but the couple extra bucks for the MGW shifter is WELL WORTH IT!

There is nothing like hammering through gears without fear! Too bad my Cobra's frame was off and is now a parts car, I'm gonna miss those days:(
