So driving home, I smell that familiar electrical burning smell.. Didn't notice anything funny.. so I kept driving.. 3 min. later car just shuts off.. pull over and pop the hood, and smoke is comming from the ccrm. I had it towed home and took off the CCRM and it rattles like a pack of tic tacs, and its cracked on the input side. Its obvious I need a new, so I call all the part stores, and they have to order it. They are quoting 7-10 days, and $160+$50core. Anyone have this happen to them? Would a ford dealer have the part on hand?

Wow, what parts store can order a CCRM? It's normally a Ford only item and they go for a pretty penny. I *think* most dealers have to order the module. A J/Y might have one for you (it would not be bad to have a spare anyhow - keep it in the trunk).
One of the relays might have gotten an internal short. I'd want to inspect all the wires and check the CCRM fuse to ensure nothing looks blown/damaged.

As stated I got one out of a junkyard sable, 10 bucks, still in there still works fine.
Might save you some green if you're interested...
