i have a sunpro mechanical water temp gauge. on the sensor end, the fitting that screws into the intake manifold is hollow in the middle (for the sensor tube). my question is, am i missing a piece, or some method of installing this? is there a certain port that i need to screw this into? here are some pics of what i'm working with

my intake is an aluminum manifold from a 85 mustang

I installed a similar Summit gauge in one of the left rear ports on my Edelbrock intake. The sending unit on mine looks just like the one you have. I had to buy an adaptor at NAPA to match the thread of the sending unit to my intake.

mine threads in fine . . but what's going to keep the water from squirting out the hole in the fitting?

Don't use the sending unit on the rear ports of the intake manifold, coolant doesn't flow through there, only the front ones. You will not get accurate readings from there. FYI

The rear ports may not have the flow that you would get from the front of the intake and may not be as accurate as the front, but I didn't want to move the factory sending unit. I couldn't get the plug out of the front passenger side. I was afraid going to break something trying to remove it, so I put it in the back. Thanks for the info on the flow.
