Beat by an '06 v6

Since 1994, every update did on the Mustang (96, 99, 2005) got me thinking about upgrading to be faster and up-to-date.

Thank God I always decided NO. Haven't had a car payment in almost 6 years and I still have plenty of mods to go that I'm spreading out over time. My suspension project will be done this month (finally!). Since I kept blowing off the urge to buy a newer model or even a Cobra simply to upgrade, I have now found myself in a debt free situation and my wife couldn't be happier. Now I have the funds to do a rebuild with H/C/I or even do a crate motor from CHP...........all while not breaking the bank or really affecting my finances. Not bragging here, just putting things in perspective (and I don't make a money for a living).

Do the basic mods first one or a small few at a time and enjoy the differences they make. From there, you'll have a good idea just how much brakes, suspension, and whatever else you need.

Once in a long while, I'll bite at a friendly race against a car I really have no business dealing with. In the end, I usually do well, cause I'm not taken seriously with my "old Mustang." I'm still stock engine-wise, but she runs as good as new, not run down like most cars this age. :)

Take your time and don't make big mistakes. Small ones are good, but there's too many people here to help you avoid the biggest of them.

There is no need to get yourself indebt because you were beat by a v6 hell there are plenty of turbo 4 bangers that will hurt your feelings.

A guy I work w/has an 88 V6 LX that he crafted twin turbo's for and he's pulling 10.9 @ 124mph in the 1/4. He just pulled it all apart to do some more work...he's shootingfor 9's.

I have hard enough time keeping mine running to worry about big horses anytime soon. Someday though....someday....

There was a recent stang mag editorial (by Editor Turner IIRC) about this same kinda thing. He mentioned a thread on here and the thread-starter (one of the fox moderators).

Tech is tech and it moves fast - all the new cars seem to be doing quite well (look at Japanese and Euro V6's). The Flathead guys probably felt the same way as some folks on this thread do (like they were kinda passed up). You just gotta mod what you got - these cars were almost sold like kits, cheap because they left some stuff on the table for future upgrades.

Lastly, we all love the torque (I could give a rats butt about HP, as long as there's enough to spool that torque up). Aint hardly any V6's that can give you decent torque low in the powerband, like some of us have. :nice:

Your the one who has to afford to keep the car up not the guy who beat you, or the people making parts list for you. Gas is not getting any cheaper (I miss paying .99 a gallon) and you have to live with it. Take your time and think long term most importantly have fun :nice:

That's the best advice I ever heard on this site..........

Bite your tongue! :rlaugh:

Oh wait... nevermind.

Your advice is very sound. Best to modify the car to meet your own wants & desires, not to chase after the unattainable goal of beating everyone else on the street. And if I can add my own warning ... be very careful of StangNet. There has been nothing else nearly so dangerous to my wallet and credit rating as StangNet. It's like shopping full time and everything gets rave reviews.

Thanks for all the responses..... I will probly get a h/c/i come this fall. As for now, I think I will do the simplest of things with it.....headers, cai, etc.... But will getting new wheels and tires because I am REALLY sick of the tri-bars. So, thanks for everyones thoughts.

You only live once. :rlaugh:

:jk: Don't get too far in debt. But definitely keep an eye on the Trick Flow kit. :nice:

Thanks guys for the respones to this thread. I never have read so many wise and respectable respones with out confusion. I love this site and the people on here. I have gotten plenty of really good good information from different people. Its wonderful to see that I'm not the only budget builder with a real life since of will I be able to eat tomorrow because my car comes first! I'm not for any reason saying Its a curse to be blessed, But I am saying Its a curse to you or your family if you don't prioritize! With that said[ SHAKE AND BAKE]:nice:

This is the best advice I have read in a long time. I have a friend whom I love dearly but let the people in our home town with deeper pockets put him in debt trying to keep up. He is now at $60,000 in the hole including the car, but all It brings him is the pleasure of someone saying to him is man that's a really sharp car if and when he able to put it together. OOh did I not mention that the parts are not on his car but inside his apartment!

Apartment!!! Did you say apartment. 60 Gs in a car and he lives in an apartment. @#$@#$ Crazy.

Truely, I want to go faster but I'm willing to wait to get my parts at a used discount off of his car, and continue to invest my money in real estate where my return is high! I love cars but I want to look good at the bank then in the streets.

Now this is truly the best statement I've seen in a long time on this Forum. You are thinking very wisely. Remember bricks can by a car but a car can't buy bricks.

:flag:

Your going places chief.

Peace

Yes an apartment, I have tried to share some good info on investing but he can't see or hear me right now. I pray to GOD he don't wreck it when finish because he will truely be at a lost. All in All I try to be a friend then a headache to him!

Hey sometimes a hard head makes a soft butt. If things don't work just listen and try not to say I told you so.

Peace
