Shelby GT prices

I just saw a report on GM today where they turned a profit in their 4th Q compared with a loss the previous year. The interesting thing was the picture that accompanied the article. It showed 10 new unsold GTOs on a dealer's lot in Colorado. I could only imagine the deal one of those cars could be gotten for right now. Must be at least $5000 below MSRP. So for the money (maybe around $30k) you are getting a 400 HP, 6 spd car with a quality interior and great handling. Compare to a Shelby GT at $45k +. I could live with the bland styling of the GTO for that kind of a price difference.

Just dropped my car off at the dealer for warranty work. They had a black Shelby GT with silver strips, black 18 inch bullitt wheels.... It was 39K sticker, with a 10,000 "market adjustment" mark up. 50K for a Shelby GT... Get the **** out of here.

I told my service advisor, it is so wrong that they charge that much for this car, seeing I can go buy a Z06 that will RAPE this car for UNDER MSRP ANYWHERE. I also explained FoMoCo needs to put a stop to this rediculous dealer mark ups.... and that all they are doing is pushing away their real fan base... real Mustang owners...... He just shook his head in agreement.

After dropping off my car to the dealer for repair for about the 20th time already, I checked out the new Shelby GT. They want $50,000 for car with a fake hood & body scoops. It looks like they just slapped on some parts and stripes to make some money off of the hype the Shelby GTH started. Its like they just took a stock GT and added almost another $20,000 for minor mods. Seems like customers are paying more for the name then the actual car. However the Powered by Ford badges on the side are a nice touch as well as the exhaust tip. For 50,000, I rather go out and buy a new Corvette. What are these dealers doing?

These dealers are killing Ford and insulting their loyal customers. They may be (trying) to make a few extra bucks today, but in the long run they are hurting the company that supplies them with cars to sell and insulting and angering their customers who must come back again and again if they are to stay in business.

I absolutely agree. If not for the price hike when the GT's came out in 2005 I would have one. I bought a Audi instead. Now I have sold the Audi and wanted a GT500, but ADM's killed the deal so I now have a M3. Maybe down the road I will have a Stang, but I can only imagine how many people will never come back. A lot of people become brand loyal and purchase their other cars from the same company, they are killing that as well. I do not agree with those that say it is OK to charge these outrageous prices because of demand. To each their own.:bang: :bang: :nonono:

No one says that its ok to charge these prices cause of demand. The demand results in the high prices. Its just like anything else in life,,, as long as there's shortage of a product and people with more money than brains, things will sell for higher priced that they should. Do I like it? No. Do I have a choice? No!
You cant really blame the dealers either, cause we all know, none of the dealership owners come to work just of the goodness of their heart. They come there to make some money and if there is a chance to make some extra money , of course they jump on it! Almost any other place of business would do so. Also people keep forgettin that we're talkin about car sales guys and dealers here. With their reputation, theyre somewhat entitled to ripp you off :D . The way some of you are actin so surprised makes it sound like youre gettin these high prices from your pastor/minister from your local church. :SNSign:

Here you are wrong. Ford is the only manufacturer that does this price gouging. It's rediculous. FORD should put a stop to the dealers greediness. The Z06 isn't marked up $10K. Neither should the 8000 units produced per year, for 3 years Shelby GT500 and GT. There is not a "shortage" of these cars.

My point is that a company struggling to survive should not allow its dealers to price cars this way. As I have already said, it sends loyal customers to the other guy perhaps not to return.
Sure, a few dealers may make a few extra bucks today but they are threatening their own and Ford's future. If a car is in demand, build more.
If no one wants a car, don't rebate the heck out of it until someone will buy it.
Build what people want and price it fairly. That, I believe, is the key to success.

I don't pay attention to a whole lot of new car releases, but the last time I can recall a substantial dealer markup on a new release was the Honda S2000. At a car show my dad and I went to the year it was introduced, we were checking it out when a Honda rep came over. We said nothing to him, but he quickly chimed in stating that most dealers will add at least $5000 to the MSRP. So Ford is NOT the only one to do this. Just their timing on the most current go around is bad. We're looking at 2 straight years of a more limited production Mustang with at least a $10K increase:shrug: and the company is crumbling beneath them. Just about every time they sell a car at MSRP they make money! So who knows, 5 years from now when there are STILL unsold '06 GT500s sitting around, will Ford still have made that extra money????? I mean, why sell @ $60,000 for $20K profit and discourage us "common" buyers, sell extremely slow and possibly not the entire run. OR sell @ MSRP and make $5K profit and almost all customers are happy and sell out the run within a reasonable time period.(Based the dealer cost/MSRP @ $40K/$45K respectively)

Well don't believe for one moment that both GM and DC won't pull the same price gouging crap as Ford when they come out with their limited edition Z-28 Camaro and T/A edition Challenger within a year after releasing their base models in 08 and 09 respectively and perhaps then Ford just might wake up and hopefully bring both the Shelby GT 500 and GT closer to MSRP providing of course that both are still in production by then and if not ? hopefully they won't repeat the same mistake when the Bullit and Mach 1 return

Losing Faith in Ford

At this point, I am not surprised at all about the inflated prices. Ford dealers are killing Ford. A stock GT lacks performance, and any special edition mustang lacks a realistic asking price. Modding a GT seems like the way to go if you insist on a mustang. The special editions in C6 pricing are not realisitic. I do like the Shelby GT, but I wouldn't pay much more than $30,000 to own one. Translation- I'm not getting one. I'd spend more for other cars, but everyone knows the Shelby GT just adds a couple of packs from the Ford Racing catalog. Big deal. I have nothing against Shelby, but I am not a Shelby nuthugger who is going to pay top dollar for his name on my slightly modded GT. Back to my German car threads....

I am actually waiting for the Charger to come out, I think it will put the GT500 back to MSRP, might even happen prior to that. The regular Shelby GT is not even hitting MSRP on e-bay. The GT500 seems to be going for around 5-7k over MSRP right now. The only one that would tell you cars are still going for 20k over is dealers because they want you to beleive your getting a good deal at 15k over. I have seen the same cars re-listed on e-bay week after week and they never make reserve. If the demand was as high as dealers make it out to be how come some dealers have 10+ on their lots? They will come down to MSRP, sooner than later.

I just drove past a Pontiac dealership today and saw two GTOs on the new car lot, one with a price of $28000 in the windshield. So there you have the bargain of a lifetime - a great handling 400 HP car for $28k. In comparison, even the
$39k MSRP of a Shelby GT is way overpriced for what you are getting.

Yes there is a dealership from Ohio sitting on 10 GT500s and they have been listing and relisting theirs on e-bay for weeks. The fact that they state they have 10 of them totally defeats the whole limited numbers so you have to pay exhorbitant markup claim. Those cars can sit and rot for all I care. I agree those dealers are being very shortsighted and are hurting their reputations, the reputation of Ford, and the reputation of Shelby. All for a few thousand dollars. It is pitiful. :(

There should be a rule from the manufacturer that no dealer can charge more than 10 % over MSRP for any of their cars EVER!!

I'll second that. Seems reasonable. Ford should set rules that dealers must abide by or they can no longer get product. That would wake up dealers and probably help Ford survive.
I wish I could order direct from the factory. With the internet and the fact you can build your own car (at least on the site) why not allow, people to order direct. Just eliminate the dealers. That would save Ford money.

Ford can not control the prices a dealer puts on their vehicle. If they commit to such thing then they also have to go by the same rule when the dealer doesnt make the deal at MSRP on other vehicles and compensate the dealers. Instead of talkin nonesene, why dont people realize that the GT500 isnt your average Mustang and it costs more than sticker to get one. Ford and/or dealers dont decide the prices, the consumers do. If people would stop payin the high prices, the dealers would be forced to lower the prices after havin the damn car sittin on their lot for few months. So far from what I have seen at all local dealers are sellin them between 15$-$20K over sticker. Its because people pay the price. And most dealership get one or two so they get away with the price gouging. those dealer that you see sittin with 8-10 units are the ones who decided to buy them from other dealers for couple thousand over sticker just so they can make more money on it.
If youre not happy with the prices,, then like some one else said, just buy a GT and mod it. much cheaper:flag:

Sure the GT500 isn't your average Mustang but that is already taken into account by the MSRP which is about $18k more than a Mustang GT Premium. And even at that, when compared with the 03-04 Cobras I don't see this as being $10,000 more car (the increase in price from the Cobras) just because it has the Shelby name on it. And it is not a really low production car. I recall somebody posting on here that they plan to produce over 15,000 of them over 2-3 years. if people are so eager to pay the inflated asking prices, why are guys posting on here that they see the cars relisting on e-bay repeatedly because they are not meeting the reserve. These dealers are holding out for the big bucks when it is already becoming clear that ship has mostly sailed. They just look desperate and pathetic at this point. I believe it is a symptom of just how far Ford and its dealers have fallen that they would try to milk a few thousand extra dollars out of these cars - I think all their other models are not selling except with price reductions and incentives. I expect it will turn a lot of people off Ford completely. Although I am not in the market for a new car currently, I know this has me pissed off enough to consider other brands more than I might otherwise have done, in the future when I am in the market.

As far as the Shelby GT500 goes, there are no plans to make any more for 08 or 09. Most of the 7700 07's have already built/shipped and delivered. Theres probably around 300-500 units pending sale/delivery and its safe to say that maybe 1 out of 1000 units were sold at MSRP.
Dealers that are sittin on the units are the ones that bought a bunch of them from other dealers as I mentioned.
Also, if you gonna go buy a Toyota or Chevy or anything else because Shelby is a high demand car that seems more like your problem than Ford's. Wait till you see what Camaro's and Challenger go fo when they come out and we're talking cars that have no comparisons to the Shelby.
