right now its got a t5 turbo, a nice $1600 intercooler dual 3" stainless steal exhaust, 5in tach, nice turbo guage, and some other performance parts, the guy im buying it from is a macanic and knows what hes doin i was just wondering what all else i can do to boost up the hp...cold air intake, heads and a AEM gas line, and a blow off valve thing, but its not the blow off valve

You really have to read up on the 2.3 turbo. There are many mods that can be done. For example, do you know what ECu the car has? Also the engine uses a head not heads. Why is the intercooler 1600? You can do port work to the upper lower intakes. You can also upgrade to a larger TB. Other mods include going with an aluminum head that flows better or if you have welding skills and are crafty a DOHC volvo head that really outperforms any aftermarket head on the market. It is more involved and requires a skilled welder/mechanic.

It takes a lot more than that. I wish people would stop throwing that out as a viable option. That whole thing is still in the development stages at best.

DC, what are you talking about by "AEM gas line?"

Go here and read up: www.turboford.net

Why how involved is it? Weld areas that are short. Modify oil supply to the head, modify cam tower, modify the gasket, get the right belt, route the pulleys and belt. Mill the head , get the 2 spacers for the two center head bolt holes. It's not that hard? Several have done it and there are great write ups that can save you alot of time. I for one have already bought the car a 93 hatch, I bought the svo 86 engine complete with the PE ecu and now I am working on getting the DOCH head. I have funds put aside for this project. It is very doable. And I will do almost all the work myself. It really depends on your skill set and how involved you want to get with the setup.

It depends more on individual definitions of "not that hard" and "doable." If a Volvo headswap is "not that hard," then a Zetec/Duratec to RWD engine swap must be almost "easy."

My point is what Red_LX already said; a Volvo head is not a viable option for most people. They would be looking at scrounging used parts from somethng like 5 makes and/or models of cars, custom machined parts that need to be welded on, doing the necessary tuning, and of course finding a decent Volvo head to begin with.

The only parts you need come off the Volvo 740 realy just the head. if you take any other parts of other cars you did so becouse you wanted too not becouse it was easier or cheaper. The Volvo head has been well past the Developement stage for a while..14 have been running not including mine that like an idiot i had a hand in its demise..haha itl be together when im back from Gatlenburg TN on Monday and should be on the road driving maybe Wend. next week. no hard to make part except the intake and header,...just wanted to say that much..haha if you look at mine itll look very complicated by my design..haha................Hal

instead of creating a whole new thread, i already have a '88 TC donar and '88 LX. i had a few questions--where is overboost? i've read 17.5 and would like to do that but i'd be worried about fuel(i would definatly get an a/f gauge first)--in the swap, i'm curious about where the ECU is located, i seen a couple black objects underneat the dash but didnt really look into it and i was also curious if there's just a simple plug-it-in type deal on the firewall and if i can just plug the turbo ECU in(i hope this rant was clear).

1.) where is overboost?

2.)i'm curious about where the ECU is located,

3.) i was also curious if there's just a simple plug-it-in type deal on the firewall and if i can just plug the turbo ECU in(i hope this rant was clear).

1.) ~18psi.

2.) Behind the passenger front kick panel.

3.) It's semi-plugin. There are a few pins that need to be switched around and there are numerous threads about it here.
