I know there have been some threads on this subject in the past, but my search efforts turned up nothing. It is finally time to have an engine built for the '95. As such, I have several questions for those who have had Ford engines built locally.

1. Who did you use for your build?
2. How was your experience with this builder? (customer service, overall build quality, etc.)
3. How was the pricing, when compared with other competition?
4. How long did the project take for the builder to complete?

No offence, but seriously dude- that is NOT a good meter to guage an engine builder by. Some engine builders can get you right in and back out, so can Aamco for your transmission:notnice:. Your other topics are pretty valid, but if you find a guy that can get you right in and running in a week, chances are there is a reason why he is not busy if you get my drift. A good builder is worth the wait.

Again, no offence- but this is a horrible time to be looking. Winter is a great time but right now everyone and their brother are getting their cars up and running, all the last minute people. You will be hard pressed to find a quality builder than can get you done in a decent timeframe.

We use Somers up here. You get what you pay for. He is the man, but he is expensive compared to a person that works out of their house. We have also yet to have a problem with any of his engines.

I have no problem waiting a while for a quality build to be performed. However, I like to know, ahead of time, what time frame a given project should span. We have all dealt with businesses who promise a quick completion to appease the customer, when they know full well it will take longer. This is what I seek to avoid. To me, this issue is connected with customer service.
I am fully aware that this is a horrible time of year to be looking for an engine builder. Unfortunately, the timing was out of my hands. My car hasn't been on the road for two years. This was due, ultimately, to bills I incurred from ongoing medical problems. I have finally settled all my debts and intend to get the car back on the road. If that means finishing every system on the car with the exception of the engine, so be it. I can wait.
I have heard good things about Somers, and have seen his engines at work on the track as well.:nice:

Archie did my motor:nice:

Ben Somers 360-699-5205. Toms built a motor (408) and he hasnt had any probs with it, the motor is running mid low 10's all motor. Money talks! good luck on your qwest! Go down to the track and ask around with the guy's that are running. They would know also? peace

john:p

Archie sommers has built me 5 motors with out any problems at all.
The longest wait time was about 2 months, due to the fact that nothing in the motor was off the shelf stuff.
Most of the wait time on an engine rebuild is for part's, so if you know what you want for internal's and can get some of that stuff rounded up in advance the sooner you'll get it back.

I was always told if you cant say anything nice dont say anything. So as for Tom's, I will remain quiet.

Somers Machine is on the corner of Minnihaha and St Johns, and have been building engines for many many years. They built Lar's motor, Rays motors, Vulcans motors, and countless other big names. He is huge in the roundy round stuff, but builds a pretty wicked drag motor too:nice:
