What would you choose?

here is my problem.

Currently i have a custom SCT chip and a AEM wideband.

I want to do some of my own tuning, and have to make a choice.

If i were to buy the chip burner and software, then i would need another brand of wideband to datalog and a laptop

Chipburner/software $400
Datalogging wideband $400
Laptop $400

If i were to tune with a tweecer R/T all i need is that and a laptop, which i see as being cheaper but i hate to throw away that expensive chip!

Tweecer R/t $550
laptop $400


So for me, its cheaper to get the tweecer, but im also afraid i wont get it to run correctly as i dont have my MAF transfer sheet anymore!

help!

Why not a used PMS? You already have a WB. You can find used PMS's for around 400 bucks.

You don't need a laptop for a PMS. I paid $410 shipped for my PMS, but fox ones are much easier to find.

To put it simply, its an O2 sensor that can read a much wider range of oxygen content in the exhaust gases compared to the stock ones. The air/fuel ratio read by the stock O2's is not accurate enough as it can only measure a narrow range wheras the wideband can read usually anywhere from say 4:1 to 18:1 or more on the a/f scale. That becomes very important when tuning a highly modified combo and allows the tuner to set the fuel curves to reach an ideal (safe) a/f ratio for the setup.

I can offer you a way to save on a Laptop for a Tweecer

I run an older Toshiba with Win98 SE (usb capable btw))

It works just fine

IMHO ... Its absolutely critical to have a good battery

You can find older Laptops like mine for 100 bux with dead batteries

Again ... it's gotta offer a usb port

Find a battery for 50 to 100 bux more
and
You're in there for 150 to 200 bux total

btw Kyle ... with all the stuff I've seen you do in the past

You'd have no problems picking up Tweecer/PCM skills

i know what your talking about with the laptop deal, but i think no matter what im going to need one....

Im just really trying to decide which is gonna be the cheapest way to do what i want....

I really do want to learn about how the ecu works, and wont mind putting in some time.

I would love a pms for its ease, but for $1000 new...thats steep. If i could find a used one, i would be in buisness because i could use my wideband!

If what I heard is true about whats coming down the pipe with the tweecer...they will DOMINATE the tuning world or at least put up one hell-o-va fight.

I would go with a used laptop and tweecerR/T, a used/good deal on a PMS is good but if you have to have something like datalogging then its going to be hard to beat a tweecerR/T.

Like grady said you can run some fairly old OS laptops it just needs a USB and most USB supported laptops have the min. req. for what the tweecer needs. Buddy of mine got a toshiba like posted above for 150$ about 4yrs ago. I run an old dell inspiron(sp?) 3800 from the father-in-law (tech. the wifes but she has 0 use for it...until I hook up the wireless router).

I don't know why the aem wideband would not work, its listed on calcon. Plus, you will be able to monitor your iat if its hooked up.

I use the AEM uego wideband with my tweecer and it works, just had to modify a file for the aem voltage values.

Mine just fits tight in the pass seat.

I've never thought about mounting it myself

I rarely tune in the car

I mostly use it to gather data

About the only time I mess with it in the car is when I upload the latest file
in the garage.

It could be kinda cool to have it mounted
then again
It would draw too much attention to my way of thinking

You can get decent brand new laptops for 400$. I would do that and tweecer personally. The laptop will be handy for other things also.
