Steering Wheel?!

Hey guys,
My steering wheel is F*d up, beyond repair. Anyway, 200$ for an original steering wheel is alot and I don't really like the aftermarket steering wheels, anyway. In the classified section I found a white Steering wheel for sale, for 50,

I was wondering If is it worth buying it and then painting it red to match the interior? Baisically if I paint it red will the paint chip/ fade fast especially if ur hands are on it all the time?
P.s. I am also considering buying those leather coverings

What's wrong with your current wheel.

get a sport wheel from a mustang II or other 70's ford, they were offered with both leather and foam sport grips. that's the wheel i'll be using. put a nice red leather wrap on it and you'll have a pretty cool steering wheel. they generally sell for between 50 and 100 bucks on ebay.

similar to this one. you have to be careful which one you get though as the 79-up fox body wheels have the horn button on the turn signal lever instead of the center of the wheel so they don't have provisions for the horn where the wheel attaches to the column. mustang II's are the best place to find the correct wheel

wheel

You can get your original wheel refurbished, but that will cost you more than a nice new aftermarket wheel. If you prep that paint by getting it super clean then use vinegar on it, then self etching primer, then paint. it should last you for a number of years.

hmm, i'll check out the "sport wheel from a mustang II "
I would prefer a smaller steering wheel because I am 5'11" -6ft and my knee does hit up against the steering wheel when I go for the brake.
I checked out an after market grant steering wheels that NPD and when he brought out the wood grain one I was expecting much more, at least the wood glossed, I didn't like it at all, I was really like the shelby's wood but thats $$$

Does anyone know the "spline" for our steering shaft? Ive been looking at Grant set ups and adaptors, and I dont know the spline count. Once I get that, Ill have a nice great condition white wheel to sell.

These steering wheels are fairly easy to find. The hard part is finding a decent horn button for them that isn't broken. (BTW I have two or three of these wheels stashed away). They came on Granadas, Pintos and Thunderbirds too.

i have 5 of these wheels but only 2 that have the horn on the wheel instead of the turn signal stalk. funny thing is i only have 1 horn button that is broken and it's an extra, the other 5 are perfect.

Just recieved the steering wheel! It looks great! I'm kinda bummed about the shipping, 11.95... I could've drove there but with today's gas prices I probably would've spent the same amount,
