interior light wont go off

Hey guys

My interior light (inside on the roof of the car) doesnt go off and when i lock my car with my keyless remote it will beep twice like my door is ajar. I'm thinking its some kind of sensor. Anyone have this problem before? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Its annoying the piss out of me too. sometimes when i'm driving that interior light wont go out. Any help would be great. If there is some kind of sensor could someone tell me where its at so i can fix it. Thanks!

if you turn your headlight knob all the way to the left (counter clockwise) it will stop when the gauges are fully lit, then you can click it over and the cockpit light will come on, go to your car and turn the knob clockwise and if it clicks then it was just on.

The light wont go out even when you're driving?

The problem could very well be the switch in the door jam signaling that the door is open/closed. Kinda hard to know for sure though because our cars dont say if the door is ajar.

either of the top 2 suggestion will be your answer. I bought a mustang of a older lady who complained that the interior lights (which were under the rear view mirror since it was a convertable) would not turn off. She had ever so carefully rocked the 2 switches under the mirror to sit in the middle thus turning off the lights. It turns out she had the head light switch clicked over so that the interior lights would always be on.

My car is an 1987 so it's different but I had my door dinger stuck on and it was the sensor on the door frame. A little button that gets pushed in when the door is closed.

Must be that time of year. My 99 Convertible just started doing this yesterday and headlight switch is not turned all the way to the left. I'm guessing it's the door switch. Anyone ever change one of these out? There is nothing in the door, just a button I'm guessing is magnetic? So the switch itself is in the door jamb?

Same here. My '02 just started doing it as well. Intermitant though.

I removed the dome light bulb for the time being, but I'm told a good lubing of the door switch will do the trick...

yeah i fixed this problem...this guy on mustangforums.com had the same exact problem...lol and no it wasnt the headlight knob...everyone says that...thats the first thing i always check lol but anyway...

here is the solution for anyone that would like to hear it...its a very common problem...and it worked right away...its been fine ever since...



SOLUTION: sprayed electrical circuitboard cleaner into door latch mechanism. I let it evaporate 5 mins. Then sprayed silicone grease into it...FIXED




btw before i got this fixed...i thought about taking the bulb out too haha but then i realized that there is a 20 minute timer on it so it didnt really bother me and i knew it wouldnt kill my battery lol
