Charge motion delete plates +exhaust mods on a daily driver??

I was speaking with someone at Brenspeed quite a while back about a tune and what they suggested for power adders to my ’06 GT. Right now I have an AFE stage II intake, saleen short shift kit, and a saleen UDP set (waiting to be installed). This car is my daily driver, even through the winter so I don’t want to do anything that might adversely hurt my vehicle. My next step will be to get a tune from Brenspeed (or Bama, haven’t 100% decided yet) but am looking for anything else I might want to put on before I go ahead with the tune. My first instinct was to go with the FRPP Charge motion delete plates (or the steeda, is there much difference between them?) however the fellow at Brenspeed suggested that they be reserved for racing applications (i.e. tall gears, slicks and power shifting applications), what are you’re thoughts? <?***:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I’m also looking at a new exhaust (but not sure if its worth the extra money) the other issue is that I don’t want it to be too loud (waking the neighbor’s etc.) since I will be using this car as a daily driver which includes going to meet clients etc. and don’t want a huge amount of drone (since #1 I find it annoying haha, and if I’m driving a client around I want to be able to hear them talk). I’ve looked at the Ford Racing Axle back (M-5230-GTA) and the magnaflow cat back or even the flow master axle back. Any suggestions, or should I just stick stock, will it make much of a difference? <o:p></o:p>

I've had cmrc delete plates on my daily driver for well over 20,000 miles. If you got a good tune for them, then they are a PERFECT addition for a daily driver... my BamaChips tune did not allow for ANY loss in low-end power. I put approximately 12,000 miles on my car with the cmrc deletes before I put the 4.10 gears in my car. So I drove the car daily with 3.55's & the cmrc deletes. Anybody who loses any low end power with these plates simply needs a better tune for them.

If you're looking at exhaust and you don't want to bother the neighbors, then I suggest leaving the stock mufflers in there. You won't gain any more than one or two hp from an aftermarket axle back. The most power in our exhaust is getting rid of the cats. An off-road mid pipe sounds great with our stock mufflers IMO. I have longtubes, off-road H-pipe, and stock mufflers and I love the sound. I also sleep well at night knowing I have not sacrificed ANY power by leaving the stock mufflers in there.

Any comments or preferences between the Steeda and Ford racing delete plates? Is there much or any difference between them in terms of quality and performance?

Secondly about the h-pipes this gets rid of the cat correct? Will this drastically effect my emissions? Also what is the diff. Between H and x pipes, other than the obvious?

FRPP GTA

I have the FRPP GTA axel backs on my daily driver. I was worried about the same ideas as you are: noise, drone, etc. They are great. More of a burble and slightly louder than stock, but not obnoxious. Even my Mom wants my Dad to put them on his brand new '07 GT vert because she liked the sound of mine so much after hearing them all of 1 time. Plus there have been 0 complaints from neighbors. No difference in performance though, just the sound.

Also, I have the C&L Racer intake with Bamachips tune. By far the best mod you can do. Not sure if I am going to fool around with the CM plates, might just look at UDP's. Let me know what you decide. I am interested to see what people have to say about the plates myself.

you can get the FRPP plates for under $100, the steedas are about $300.

... IF you can find a shop with FRPP plates in stock, because they are now discontinued. :bang:

Before last week:
FRPP plates... cast aluminum with stock diameter runners.
Steeda plates... billet aluminum with slightly larger diameter runners (but you won't notice a power difference).
The cast aluminum material is why the FRPP plates were cheaper.

Now, as of last week:
Steeda is still selling their more expensive billet aluminum plates.
FRPP has discontinued their cast aluminum plates, as evidently Steeda owned the patent on them and Ford simply leased it for one year. The contract is now up.
Now Steeda is selling the exact same cast aluminum plates as "economy plates" for $139.

:notnice: lame. come on ford, you finally had a competing price!!! :bang:

From Edmonton EH? (exhaust content too)

Magnaflow catback will give you noticable performance gains and are not loud until the revs get past 3000. I had it on my Mustang V6 and just installed them this week on my new GT.

I can assure you that there is a difference with a new exhaust system. Magnaflow claims 10 or more hp. Their site has an article that tested them for a 12HP and 8 torque http://magnaflow.com/05news/magazine/mach1.asp

I won't tell you you will get miracle gains with an exhaust but the engine will wind up quicker and you will notice a difference. I have on two mustangs (06 and 07) and on 4 motorcycles.

Next is the CAI from Brenspeed. I bought my CAI for my V6 last last year from Brent. Top notch stuff!

BTW, I am in Edmonton too.

Harrison, thanks for the heads up. Great to see a few guys from Edmonton on here:nice: Did you change the X-pipe too, what was all in your new exhaust system? Also where did you get your exhaust work done if you don't mind me asking? Have you had any other work done on your car? Where do you normally buy your stuff from, do you install all of it yourself?

What and who: Modifications

I normally do all my own wrenching as I find it hard to trust folks with my toys.

I bought my car from Waterloo and they treated me well. I spoke to Scott in parts and he was a good guy too. He gave about 10% off for being an Alberta Mustang Owners Association member.

As far as the exhaust, I just bought the Magnaflow cat-back system. I had Waterloo install it too as I had no time this week and could not wait. The system consisted of two pipes from the cat to the axle and two mufflers. I did not exchange any "X" or "H" pipe. I figure there are diminishing returns so I left it at that. The part number was 14881 and here is the link:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=American&id=358

Installed it was just under 800.

The only other dealer who seems to know their performance stuff is Freedom. They have stock on Ford racing headers and other stuff. I have not had work done there but the Performance Parts Manager took me in the back and showed me a build up of a mustang with a supercharger, headers, full exhaust, brakes and other goodies. They have Procharges and Ford Racing superchargers in stock.

Waterloo is a Roush dealer too.

I ordered a C&L cold air intake (racer) from Brenspeed down in the States. He shipped the same day I ordered and I expect it to be in town late next week. UPS will charge me some duty and fees but that's the price you pay for speedy service. I called around town but I belive that there is nobody in Edmonton who has a clue about computer tuning Mustangs. Freedom Ford will sell you some canned Predator tunes and an AFE CAI but I bought a CAI from Brenspeed for my V6 and the tune was simply wild. It was a very different car. If you buy the Roush CAI, you won't need a tune and it is warranty friendly. Talk to Scott and call Freedom and go with your instinct.

So, I will get the CAI, install it myself (it's really easy) and flash the engine computer with my Xcal-2 and a tune from Brenspeed. Dollar for dollar, this is the biggest improvement you can do in abount an hour. No ****, it will get you 25 to 30 extra ponies.

Brenspeed:

I also ordered a triax shifter from Steeda.ca which should be here next week too. I will install that myself too.

I try to buy in Canada but nobody had stuff in stock. I was quoted 14 business days from most places and it was still cheaper to buy it from Brenspeed, pay the exchange and duty/GST. On a $600 order from the States, it will cost about $900 to $1000 to buy it from a Canadian source. Very stupid.

Powerama is in town next week. You can check out all the CAI's and tuners but I don't know if you will find anyone in Edmonton who can do this stuff.

Harrison, I saw a red GT that I thought was you for a sec on 109th St. on friday, but no fog light flashing haha. The other dealer that knows a bit about performace is Koch (although one fellow there has moved on so I'm not sure if they'll be ordering as much stuff, but Bob is still there, he's got an '05 taupe colored mustang that he's modded up a fair bit too).

And then there's Healy's if you talk to Mark Hicks the owner he's quite the enthusiast and knows his stuff quite well. I was looking into a supercharger and emailed the parts dept. I was really surprised that he was cc'd on the email and gave me a call just to talk. Thats where I'm taking my car this week to get fixed (some guy in a suburban rear ended me a couple months back), so I'll get my CS bumper put on and the LED tail lights that have been sitting in my garage for a few months :S).

That being said back to the topic, I know I'm going to order a SCT X-cal when I get back from vacation and put on my Saleen UDP's but I'm still debating about the charge motion plates and the exhaust. On one hand I think the stock exhaust is great for a stock exhaust but want just a little more, so I dont know if I should go ahead and put new mufflers on, a cat back or just start with an X pipe (or even H pipe ... which is a whole other story since I keep getting conflicting opinions, some say don't put H's on your car they're horrible, others say don't touch the X's). Any advise anyone has would be great.
