There is a guy parrish up north with a 4x4 1500 Silverado i beleive.. Anyhow.. its got a LS1 worked to be a 408, heads n cam, and it runs low 10's. He drives it everywhere... its a nice truck.
All late model chevy small blocks were an LS1. I '00 (and a couple '99s) and newer V8 trucks are LS1s. Some are aluminum block, some are iron. Either way, they are really nice trucks, and incredible powerplants. A regular cab short bed 2wd with a 5.3 and some bolt ons would be a sweet truck, and definitely run with a stock 5.0. My coworker's cousin has an extended cab, 5.3 stock longblock with a turbo that he has beaten a Z06 with. Car Craft magazine just built a 6.0L iron block LS1 out of a junkyard truck. With a stock shortblock, a set of $1k GM L92 heads, a mild cam, and an msd carb conversion it made 550 fwhp. What's stupid about this thread is that you guys keep talking about LS1-powered trucks. Unless I'm nuts (which is debatable), there is no such thing as a LS1-powered truck unless somebody did an engine swap. LS1's are only used in cars. The GM truck lines use the Vortec engines which are a completely different group of engines.
And as for the 700R4 trans, they "CAN BE" very solid if built correctly.
. . . Ive been looking into getting a new truck and Im looking into aftermarket performance. . . . I wanna hear stories.
I was just about to ask the same thing. "What's up with Mustangs" = "I'm looking for a truck" ...???
No sorry what I meant with the title was that I keep hearing all these stories about mustangs getting killed by mildly modded LS1 trucks. The reason for a truck is that it is alot more useful than a car....I mean c`mon who wouldnt rather have a 4x4 truck that you could use everyday for work but it ran 11`s or better.
P.S. the reason Im saying mustangs is because they have and always will be my favorite car.
Sorry...I didnt realize everyone was so touchy when someone brings up the LS1. When I said I love mustangs that sorta means that I would never replace one with a truck, a mustang is a mustang and nothing will replace it. But where is fords answer to the LS1 trucks?

:Zip2:Sure the lightning, but thats a special edition super expensive truck.
Read and learn:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine#LS1
Learn what? The site doesn't list trucks because they are not considered LS motors by GM. They call the truck engines Vortec. Either way, they are of the same design, and parts are interchangeable, so it's the same engine as far as I'm concerned.
