Exhaust question?

I want to buy a 3" exhaust for my car. Mac is the only one that list a 3" for our years. Other company's list that there 2 1/2" fit years 94-97. Some say 86-95. I am ok with Mac but it seems they now only make the one with the HTS tips. I would prefer the dura black or chrome tips.

I emailed the tech at Mac and asked if othere years would fit the 94/95 cars. He replied they only make one part for that year. I tried another email explaining i did not want the HTS tip and wondered if other years would fit, and again he replied they only make one style for the 94/95.

So is it just a hanger difference,or are the bends different for our cars.?

How much power are you putting down?

I do believe that the bends are different enough between the 94/95 and the older stangs. After lots of searching in the past on exhaust setups for our years, I do know that it seems rare for anyone to use an exhaust part made for an older or even a newer stang. Fitment would probaby be a nightmare (my guess).

I would think with your current engine setup, the next logical exhaust upgrade would be to go with long tube headers and a matching mid-pipe in the 2 1/2" size. Instead of flows, you could get a catback with 3 or 3 1/2" tailpipes or keep what you got and just swap in larger tailpipes. With long tubes and your setup, you'll get a power increase that should be noticeable.

That is my current set up.

I am in the process of building an all forged 408 with AFR 205's, ED Curtis cam, Trick Flow Intake, Kooks SS 1 7/8" to 3 1/2" collector, Kooks 3 1/2 x-pipe.

Thats why I need the bigger exhaust.

Well then that makes sense. I'd guess you're going to need to go custom, but I'm sure several in the 5.0 section has done this on a 408. I've seen a couple people on this section with the 408, but can't remember the names off hand.

Sounds like a really neat setup you've got planned. When you're done with the build, post up a video so we can hear the new music under your hood. Should be awesome.
