Thinking About Buying a Corvette!

  • Sponsors (?)

Well guys should be getting it some time this month or next. I found a brand new 07 Victory Red, black interior, auto, transparent top, with chrome rims for $49,000 an I can get it for $44,000. I think I going to pull the trigger VERY soon.

Im still undecided about selling the stang or not. Might just have two toys instead.

As for what I do, Im going to College for engineering and work at an engineering company designing Dust Collectors. Ive been working their for about 5-6 years now and have worked my way up from clean up boy to engineer.

How old are you?

I think there is a certain demographic that drives Corvette's (Read: Old guys :D ) and anytime I see young guys driving them I get an immediate bad taste in my mouth.

Realistically if you don't make 150K a year and already own a house there is no way you should be driving any 50K car.

Isn't a built and s/c'd mustang enough?

What's the point of getting the Vette? If it's because you can get a "Good deal" Then pass it up. The deals will always be there.

Thats my next car for sure. I'm a HUGE mustang fanatic and have been drving them since i was 16, but the C6 and C6Z are both on a whole better level. Will i sell my car to get one? Nope, i'll keep it and get the C6 as well because ive spent money on it that i'll never get back and its getting blown soon. The amount i would get for trade-in in 2-3 years for it wouldn't even be worth it.

I don't bleed Ford blue, instead i just bleed gasoline. Be it running through a vette or a mustang. :D

Do it and enjoy the new car and its refinement, handling, and badass looks.

I’m 18 years old, I have a 3.8 GPA (damn Spanish class) and during the summer I have worked forty hours a week since I was about 13 years old, working 53 hours a week since I was 16 and have been doing little odd jobs before that and I work 15-20 hours a week during school. I work hard get good grades and I have never been in trouble with the law or at all for that matter. I've never been pulled over and never been in an accident. I already have a 401K started with about $5k in it. So I’m not doing bad to say the least and my college is paid for. :D

I'm not going to lie, my parents have money and I am pretty much spoiled. The only difference is I appreciate things and take care of my things where most kids who don’t drive a car that’s half as nice as mine don't. I’m not the type of kid who gets a $30K car wrecks it the first week of owning it and the car is a sh** box by the time its a year old (my friend did this). My car looks just as good if not better than the day we bought it. My parents have helped buy or bought most things for me which has let me save up ALOT of money. They will also be helping me out with this car as a graduation present and also for getting into Purdue’s Engineering Program.

Honestly though, I didn't make this post to have people say I should or shouldn't buy this car, it's not your money and it's not your life. Also Corvettes are not owned by old men, you would be surprised how many younger guys are driving them (20-30+).

I love my Mustang but I want something else, a lot of people would ask why a stock GT isn't enough but people mod there GTs or buy Mach1s and Cobras, its all what you can afford. Saying you need to make $150k a year to own a corvette is crazy because that means you would have to make 75K a year to own a 25k Mustang GT or any other car and I’m sure most people that own a GT don't make that.

What’s the point of getting a Vette? Well what’s the point of getting a GT when you could buy a Civic? It’s that you wanted it and liked it and most of all could afford it.

I know a bunch of people will come on here and say I’m spoiled and what not. Well I admit it, I am but I’m not like most. Plus don't tell me you wouldn't get a Vette (or any other car you liked) if you could too.

Whew....

Here’s a pic of one identical to the one I’ll be getting.

At least you understand that you are spoiled. I would drive a vette and probably will at some point in life, but I will wait until I can truly afford it.

My point in saying that you need to make 150K to drive a vette was merely to make a point. I think most people today, and in my experience a lot of children of wealthy parents, feel entitled to "Luxuries" that they have not yet earned.

You have some money saved (Good job), but if you factor car payments and insurance on a 44,000 car you are looking at about $1,500 per month. Your car should be about 10% or less of your budget and that would put you at about $150K-180K per year. Most people live far beyond their means. It is easier for you because you can ride your parents coattails. I don't blame you for this at all.

You do have a nice car already and have the opportunity to own one of the nicest American sports cars currently made. My only thought is

"How much sweeter would it be if you could buy this car from money you earned?"

Matt

P.S. Its a super bitchin car! I love the color.

I totaly know that with out the help of my parents I wouldn't even have the car I have to day. I've proved to my parents that I know the value of a dollar wich most kids don't today, even kids whos family don't have half as much money as my family. The kid I know with the 30k car has beat the car to the point its about to blow and all he says is "Oh-Well, they'll (parents) fix it." My parents already told me if it (Mustang) breaks it's your problem. I would love to say I bought the car with my own money but I know thats not gonna happen, atleast not right now. LOL I could pay for a good chuck of it but not all of it but I can't pass up the opportunity to get this car. :nice:

Seems like you don't take things for granted. Point proven, lay off guys!

Btw...come down to Indy - we needa make some pulls before you sell that thing, should be really damn close :p

Everybody has been cool about the Vette other than the Vette haters (Kilgore :D ) If I do race the GT I need to put 3.73s in and I dont really want to put anymore money in it. I have Gteched it on a road that has given me EXACT times to what Ive ran at the track and I pulled a 12.0, 12.1, 11.9 on that road but Im shifting into OD at WOT.

I found out I do have to sell the Stang if I get the Vette and it kind of make me rethink it. I still keep thinking I would like to put the new fuel system in, 8 rib kit w/ 2.8 pulley and 3.73 gears in it with maybe a 3200 stall. I could do all that for about 3k more. Im just at a loss on what to do, I think I could be a low 11 car with those mods or I could have a sweet ass Vette. :bang:

Im not so sure I would go for the vette, Sure they are a totally wicked car but think of all the time and effort you have put into your stang....I have trouble selling vehicles that Ive put effort into, I get attached. And like you said with those mods you could be in the 11's.
