Broken Arrow, OK
What gives!!! My 1st set of rear rotors/pads went metal to metal at the track... The fronts were still ok (worn, but good). Next I upgraded to powerslot rotors in the back and then the passenger side rear broken, it split completely through both sides of the rotor! THis happened after only 5k miles. I finally had Oriellys order a set of OEM replamements from Houston and they have only been on for a couple hundred of miles and now they are broke.

I do not feel the rear brakes on while driving and the car does not pull to one side like the brake might be on. I currently use hawk pads and I drive hard every day all day, but never had this issue with any other car driven the same way. Any ideas as to what the H##L is going on? This happened while I was casually driving down the street. I noticed a thumping sound and new what that it had happened again.

If I accelerate or brake the sound goes away, but if I coast the sound reappears.

I have NOS and if I take it to a dealer that probably will not back it under warranty.

It's possible that the pads you got are too rough on your rotors. Are these hardcore racing brake pads you've put on or what?

Dealer probably won't cover any brake issues under warranty if you are running those kind of brake pads.

Sounds like traction control is working your brakes pretty hard, especially if the first set went out at the track. If traction control was working the rear brakes a lot, they probably got pretty hot, maybe cooked a bearing. who knows.

Excuse my poor spelling.

A "way off" chance is that your master cylinder proportianal valve/piston has malfunctioned and is sending most of your fluid to the rear brakes? Anti-lock could also do this.

I had a spring snap on one of my master cylinders which caused the front brakes to lock. Maybe this could happen to the rear?

I also drive really hard on the road and on a road track using Hawk HPS pads.
NEVER had a rotor problem.

Good luck!

this may or may not help you, but from what i've read [not experienced myself] from CrazyAl on the mustangforums.com site, you'd do best to upgrade your brake fluid, lines, and pads even before the rotors. i'm a newbie, so take that for what it's worth!!!!!

changing pads and fluid is good advice, ford brake fluid is pretty good though.
As far as the traction control being the problem with the hot rotors, I dont see
how because these cars pull timing to activate the traction control not the rear
brakes like older traction control systems.
I would check to see if your rear calipers stick. all it would take is the rubber boot
to tear and moisture can rust the guides causing them to stick.

I do not do that many burnouts at the track to cause the rears to wear out, and I usually always turn off that d*mn traction control unless its bad weather, I love to get sideways. I did notice that the rubber boot on the rears had a small tear on both sides, but NAPA autoparts and other stores in town do not have the boot as a listed part. SO if anyone knows where I can get the part, I can start there. THanks.
