Whats up i'm new here but have been reading for awhile.
I've got an '01 GT 5spd when i depress the clutch and go to reverse it feels like the gear is still spinning and doesnt stop until i get it in. but if i keep the clutch depressed and go to nuetral and back to reverse it has stopped. as soon as i release and depress again and go back to reverse it feels like its spinning again. you know the sound of grinding gears but nowhere near as bad just mild if i only go half way into the gear while the clutch is depressed i can feel the teeth on the gear turning. its done this since the day i got it. i didnt realize until after i left the lot and went through normal driving routine. besides this everything seems fine with the tranny and clutch.

sorry if this is a dumb question but i am just trying to learn everything i can
THX

P.S. anyone here from the Fayetteville, Hope Mills NC area?

I've found more than enough info to tell me the t-45 has a synchro...including picture, but i won't say so until i am 100% sure. A lot of guys say no, but then i see a lot of info on the web saying the t-45 does have a synchro.

Here's a write-up on rebuilding a t-45 and on page 3 it shows the reverse synchro and tells you how to remove it. So things like that make me want to say the t-45 have a synchroed reverse

And here is where you can buy a replacement reverse synchro for your t-45

But i am 100% sure the t-3650 on the mid2001+ Mustangs is synchronized. It even says so on tremec's website.

On my T-3650, I can be still moving forward when shifting into reverse. On every T-45 I've ever driven, it grinds if I try to put it in reverse while the car is still moving forward. It does not syncronize.

Dunno about you guys, but this is impossible in my car. Shifting to 5th locks out reverse. Must move shifter into neutral (anywhere to the left of 5th really) to unlock.

This is true. There is a safety so you dont go from 5th to Reverse instead of 5th to 4rth. Shifter needs to be moved to the left of reverse prior to be putting into reverse in some cases. It's right in the owner's manual i believe.

There is a 5-R lockout that prevents shifting from 5th down to Revese instead of 4th. It says so in the manual.

The 2001+ T-3650 has a reverse synchro, so no need to hit a forward gear anyway.

I always hit 1st before reverse. It's such a habit of mine now, that I do it in all manual cars I get in. I did notice that it went in ALOT easier in my friend's 00 GT, after we put in a new clutch and adjustable quadrant and cable.

OPer, you might try this: put your foot under the clutch pedal and pull up till it stops. This should adjust your clutch quadrant if it's not currently correct.

If the clutch has excessive freeplay, then when the pedal is on the floor, the clutch may not be fully disengaged and the guts of the transmission are still turning, making your shifting difficult. Pulling up on the pedal works the ratchet mechanism on the clutch quadrant to take up any excess slack.

Won't hurt to try.
