Just curious if I'd be really idiotic to buy a used supercharger.

I know a guy selling a selling a used vortech v-1 S trim with a 3.33" 6 rib blower pulley. The blower bracket, throttle body to blower pipe, and bosch bypass valve will go with the blower for the same price.
The parts have 15K mileso n them.

He's selling them for a grand obo.

What else would I need if I bought this set up?

I hate sounding like a noob, but honestly, the thought has never crossed my mind to get a blower until today.

Look at it this way...if you buy his setup for a grand, provided its complete MAYBE minus a couple small items, and the blower unit itself turns out to be trashed, you could buy a brand new blower unit from vortech and probably STILL be saving yourself some money over buying a brand new kit.

ask him why he's ditching it

if he says "i'm getting a t-trim" then buy it, hell i would

if he's saying "oh, uh i need the money" you might want to take a closer look at it in person

Buying a used SC is not idiotic. They are fairly cheap and easy to rebuild yourself. I found my entire kit for 2 grand, including the FMIC. Keep watching the forums and you'll find a bargain. Chances are the blower will outlast your motor :D

exactly. I have 1500 in my kit. GO FOR IT!!!

like said earlier even if the head unit is bad and you have to have it rebuilt your still saving a bucket full of money.

id do it. IMO SC kits are way overpriced. there is no way a SC unit, a bracket, pulley and belt costs 3k+. i can see the mongoose kits because they come with everything you need to get running.

its just like big name intercooler kits for cars, 1000$+ for a radiator that moves air and some piping? to put this into perspective, i did a test with my buddies, i got a ebay front mount intercooler kit and did my own piping, he got a spearco kit. we used some air temp sensor he had laying around (plane mechanic) and were able to log it with dsmlink since it was a 0-5v sensor. the sensor was placed at equal distances from the throttle body (which is a good 2 feet after the IC outlet) and i was getting 15* colder temps. i spend 250$, he spend 995$ and still had to modify it to work with his turbo.

anyways yeah, id pick it up. the worst thing you need the blower rebuilt and/or need to make a call to get extra parts. though you cant beat a full setup for 1000$, if its a full kit.
