Need A clutch but which one?

I looking to get a clutch for my 03 GT but dont know which one. I was thinking about getting the 26 spline input shaft for it at the same time. But does my model need one? I was looking at fidanza on the Lethalperformance site and for 96-00 models they had 10 or 26 spline options and for mine they only had one option. I dont know what spline but someone help me out please.

I have an 02' GT, I'm going to run a centerforce dual friction clutch, they say it has great pedal feel and is capable of holding 600ft lbs of torque. I think 26 spline is an aftermarket tranny I have the tremec 3650 in mine and its a 10 spline. Check centerforce website it has charts for what your looking for.

You want the 11" 10 spline for your Tranny.
If you are staying N/A King Cobra and Centerforce stage 1 or whatever is good.
If you plan on adding FI anytime soon, go with Spec Stage 3 or Centerforce DFX or even one of McCleod ones.
Ask around and look at other guys' setups on here. The general consesus is that Centerforce and McCleod wont do you any wrong.

i have a SPEC stage 1 and absolutly love it. it holds up to 420 ft/lbs of torque, tho im sure it could do much much more. i say this because the stock clutch is rated a bit above 300 but i know people with over 450 rwhp and torque who have been on the stocker for years. Dont get into the huge stage clutches like everyone else unless you really do need it (450 hp and trq and above). as for the SPEC clutch, i like it cause it uses a FORD tob, grabs very hard, and it easy to slip. My stg one, after 250 miles of driving, feels just like the stock one, but pulls soo much harder.

I always love it when somebody bashes them because of their on/off thing, when they never even broke it in properly. I remember one guy said he had it for like 50 miles and took it out. Thats too bad for him because its a great clutch, and slips out easily after a few hundred.

We just went through the same thing on my brothers 04 GT ...

We went spec stage 2 and it drives great ... its smooth as butter and engages great .. he's staying N/A for a while so he wanted something that isn't too much ... but when he wants to go FI ... its still up for the 400-500 hp goal he'll be at ..

Did he get the spec 2, or the spec 2 plus??? It was told by my local performance shop that the spec 2 was a great clutch. Mine is in the shop right now getting a new spec 2. They told me that breakin was critical and to take it easy for a while.

What exactly is chatter?

Would anyone else recommend the SPEC Stage 2 clutch? This is the one I wanted to go with because I've heard many great things about SPEC. I want a clutch that's really stiff, and grabs hard as hell like a fiery demon escaping the pits of hell.

(I think it's the same demon that speed was talking about that kills kittens!)

SPEC Stage 1

SteveB24,

I just got a SPEC stage 1 installed on my '03 GT yesterday. It is shuddering pretty bad, is that what your talking about with the on/off? Did yours do this?

I have a spec stage 3 It doesn't have many miles on , but just got a 26spline disc , because I have a Tremic 600R to put in. Stock is 10 spline. Clutch and alum. flywheel worked sweet.

stay away from 11" clutch.
all spec clutches have the same pressure plate, just use diff disk setups. Personally, I would go with the centerforce. It has a much lighter pedal feel and allows better control of the clutch. The Spec tends to be an on/off "switch" more than an accurate power controller.

Spec's have a tendancy to chatter as well. But hold up to some serious abuse.
Unless you are running over 350HP at the crank, go with a stock or centerforce.
