Hey guys, I just laid down $250 for an AFM powerpipe for a 2001 GT with a Vortech supercharger. Tonight I spent a few hours trying to install this thing. What a job. I got the pipe hooked up and looking good. Then I went undeneath the car to reinstall the air filter, MAF sensor, IAC sensor, and the black piece of rubber they give you to hold all of that stuff together. This is where all my trouble began.
First off, all of that stuff won't physically fit in the fenderwell. It is way to long. My air filter which is a K&N that Vortech gave me would be practically dragging on the ground.
The other problem is that because everything is so long, the plug that goes to the MAF won't reach the meter. And the IAC plug will not reach the hole in the plastic tube. Not even close. What the hell is going on here? My instructions state that the pipe fits a 2001 Vortech GT. I doubt they gave me the wrong pipe.
Has anyone else put one of these pipes on or have any suggestions for me? Please help. There is no way I can see this pipe working.

I think I just solved my own probem after reading another post on here. The instructions they give don't show any pictures and it can be hard to visualize. They say to remove all plumming including the air filter and MAF, where other guys are saying that you don't remove it, let where it was and just add the AFM rubber connector on top of the MAF. I'll try that tomorrow.

How would this shorten the assembly?

I don't have any pics of the pipe tonight. Maybe tomorrow if things go bad again which is what I expect because I still don't see how the IAC is going to reach.
By leaving the filter and MAF in the same location with the original Vortech set-up, there is a chance that I can use the coupler they gave me, or one of the old ones from the previous set-up to make this work. I'll be back if I can't make it work again.
Thanks for the input.

Well I finnished installing it tonight. The only way I was able to make this thing fit was to cut the rubber piece that goes between the MAF and the pipe itself. That rubber piece is way to long and would have never worked. Once I cut it down, I was able to install the MAF plug and the IAC plug into the setup. It was a tight fit. Too tight.
So, then I took the car for a rip. waited till the engine got up to temperature then punched it in second gear. It pulled harder than ever before. Once it got up arround 5 to 6000 rpm, I hear a loud bang. My rpms dropped to zero and I lost my power steering and brakes. I was scared silly. I thought I blew the engine up.
I pulled over, popped the hood, and discovered that I put soo much boost through the discharge pipe that it had blown off where it connects to the throttle-body!
I tried to start it up again with no luck. All it would do is sputter and die.
I had to call my dad to come rescue me with a 5/16 socked to re-attach the discharge pipe. lol.
Then it started up just fine and drove like it always has. I think that's strange how if that pipe comes off of your throttle body, you are done for. Keep that in mind.
I'm happy that I have it installed and that I didn't waste $250 bucks. The car does pull harder than before. However, under deceleration, it now makes a lould whooosh noise under the hood. I'm not sure what that's all about. I'm talking about if you punch it for a few seconds and let off, you hear this loud air whooosh noise that's definitely under the hood. All I did was install the powerpipe. Nothing else. Does anyone know what this might be and if it is normal? Please chime in.

I'm glad to hear this! It proves that you don't necessarily have to cut metal to make it fit.

But... Why did you have to cut the rubber connector? I don't understand... Couldn't you just push the Anderson pipe all the way down into the rubber? The stop inside the connector is very deep so you can insert the pipe a few inches deep. Same thing with the rubber elbow on the supercharger, you can insert it 3-4 inches deep into the elbow.

I understand what you are saying. However, the pipe is curved and you can only push the rubber so far on the curve before it binds up. Then your MAF is too far away to be plugged in, and the air filter would be hitting the ground. So I just cut the connector in half to make it all fit.

I think i may be able to relate to the woosh sound. i have the same set up as you and noticed the same sound on my car. does it sound like a hissss when deacclerating or pressure being released from a pump? If so bingo welcome to the power pipe "wooshing" LOL. I will try and take a sound clip.
