tri-led's ftw!

for the cluster you need 5. for the ac control you need 2 i believe. but the ac is 168/194, not the smaller bulbs :nice:

Ok as promised here are pics of the Green Tri-Led

the entire job took prolly 15 minutes. i did have a problem with polarity on some of the bulbs and i flipped them over to fix. with 14 minutes of it trying to get the headlight switch to come off the dash.

i didnt touch any of the needles or anything so if you are afraid of doing this mod because of that you have nothing to fear.

the first image you can see (kinda) that the left lights have burned out.

the second image the lights have been replaced on the left side, you can defintely see a difference in brightness

Anyone have any luck finding out how we might change the Odometer from green to blue or red? I'd imagine you'd have to replace the screen possibly? Anyone?

Another thing... I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the "film" is not green... it's blue... cuz the stock lightbulbs put off a yellowish color which mixes with the blue "film" making the gauges show up as green. I believe this is also why the blue tri-LEDs look great cuz the film is already blue and when you add extra light to them they show up even better... you need incandescent red bulbs because the red has to overpower the blue "film" and still may even show up a little bit purple-ish? I noticed the blue tint on the "film" when I pulled my gauge cluster out and shined my white-led flashlight on it from behind and it looks blue

Just my 2 cents!

I just put my blue tri LEDs in yesterday and I wasn't satisfied with them at all. They weren't very bright, and everything still had a green tint. I think i'm the only one giving the tri LEDs a thumbs down. I'll try em again when its dark out, if its any good i'll post pictures.

do you have white face gauges?

Hey guys, just read through this whole thing, had a couple ideas of my own but wanted to do this as this looked really nice! So what I've read the tri-led's seem to be the concensus for the cluster and the same thing, just different size for the HVAC? Oh, and to get those results do I have to have the white face cluster? Will this work with the stock face? I'd like to keep the black back as it looks good with the rest of the car, but I'd like to go blue on the numbers. Thanks.

Hey man. To answer your questions, yes tri-led's for behind the cluster. You can use the stock black cluster and you're results will make you happy. :nice: buy from autoillumination.com :nice:

I snapped a few more shots yesterday for everyone. Sorry for the quality, cell cam. :p

Wow, looks great! I'm going to have to get on that right away and I'll get some pics up too. I'm just thinking I might go with white since blue is used a lot, but if I go with white it will just light up the green overlay and it'll be green, right? My car is silver and black and I'm working on blacking out most stuff and I think the white would look a little more uniform on the car. But great write ups here! Thanks again!

Funny....I was just looking at a new Alpine CD Player today and complained to the guy that the only colour choice for the illumination was RED and BLUE. I was miffed because I couldn't get it in Fords typical GREEN gauge cluster illumination. Now all I have to do is change the bulbs in the gauge cluster to match. :nice:

Wonder what my Cougar uses for bulbs?

You're a mod here and have yet to stumble across this thread?! It was only stickied for a couple months :p

idk about white. it's risky hehe

Risky because it's white and because of what I said or what? I read a couple pages back about somebody saying they were sanding the stock one or something, I dunno, the blue looks pretty dang awesome if I do say so myself, so I'll probably just go that way. Or red... AHH! I dunno!

Yea, the white MIGHT leak through as green.
