Apparently the previous owner spilled some soda or something under the passenger seat a while ago... There's a couple pinholes through the metal but most of it is surface rust...I figure I'll give it all a good scraping down, apply some silicone to the holes, throw some rust converter on the remaining rust and then spray some paint over it. Hopefully it doesn't spread much. Being in MA, the salt in the winters has been harsh enough on the stang's body.

Man looks like someone left the top down in the rain. Good thing you saw that now and not when someone put their foot through the floor like the Flintstones. Are you going to be turboing the Vert or going to mod it any?

Dan

Could be from the rain but when I first got the car I remember there was a big gooey patch where some soda had been spilled (that was 6 years ago). There's still a big brown spot on the original carpet.

I'm def. glad I caught it. The few pinholes through the metal kinda scare me...I'm not sure how much more rust I'll find once I start trying to remove this stuff.

Going turbo is not an option for the vert right now... I need to get some cash together for subframe connectors and all that jazz. That probably won't be until I'm settled down in CA.

Like I posted in another thread I'll be putting a sound system in it. Originally I wanted to build a box to fit in the trunk. The trunk is tiny though (especially with the top down). I decided that I'm going to delete the rear seat and put a sub box there. I'm going to try to get the box mostly done this weekend if possible so I'll have should have some pics then.

Any recommendations on what to replace the stock carpet with? I was thinking of using some thin marine carpeting. Oh ya, and I decided the sound deadening is staying out.

Put a wire brush wheel in a die grinder and go over that really well...then spray it down with some undercoating.

Sometimes, rust won't look that bad but the metal will be very thin.

The floors are completely rusted through on my tempo behind the front seats...which is part of the reason I'm ditching that car sometime this summer, hopefully.

Usta 'borrow' speed limit signs and the like for floor pan rust. spot weld them and cover it all up with roofing tar...the good old days...

A 'keep right' sign would probably fit in there without much modification... :p

I went at the rust today with some wire brushes. There's a couple small cracks that are rusted through but nothing that I'm really worried about. I'll just have to treat the interior and then go at the underside once I throw the stang up on the lift when I get around to taking care of the leaky a4ld, leaky exhaust, and leaky gas tank.

In other news, I started my custom sub box today and got it nearly done. Just need to cut out some holes for the connector cups, carpet the thing, and make up some mounts.
