How to get a new key FOB?

Does anyone know how to go about getting a spare key FOB? Is it even possible? I assume if so, it would only be through a Ford dealer. Any clue as to the expense of this? The reason I ask, is that when I bought my 2005 GT (used) it only came with one set of keys and FOB, the dealer claimed they never had a second set. So if it is possible to get a spare made I would be interested in getting one "just in case".

Thanks

Yes you can get extra keys made and key fobs. your keys need to be programmed so there will be a programing charge.

If you have the 2 originals ( only one for some years, but don't know which ) you can program them yourself easily .... takes 2 minutes

If you want to add a key....
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

I'd have made the dealer throw in the extra set as part of the deal.

Well what can I say, I was too damn excited to worry about keys at that time...

and I only have the one FOB, so thanks for the info on how to program an additional spare, but it looks like I'm gonna have to pay for a new one either way... :( oh well, better to have piece of mind than to lock my keys in the car somehow...(or loose them).

We get about 80 or so for a key if the customer has only one. Some dealers bill one hour to program, we bill 1/2 hour ( thats the minimum labor charge)

I got a new key fob off ebay for like $20.00 and programmed it myself using one of the original key fobs abd the instructions in the owner's manual...

NO NEED TO PAY $150.00 FOR A KEY FOB FROM THE DEALERSHIP!!!..
