well i figured i would throw a thread up for anyone interested.

here is what she looked like in the fall. I popped a head gasket and blew out some oil lines thats why there is oil everywhere
wholebayfinished.jpg

here is what it looked like after i stripped and welded everything
empty.jpg

here is what it looks like after paint, i meant to get a pic after i primed it but i forgot
paintedbay.jpg

the paint store did a good job matching my color, i peeled back some paper to take a look
colorcompare.jpg

i also painted some odds and ends, valve covers, coolant rail from lower intake and brake booster Gloss black. Also i painted my upper intake "aluminum" color
valvecovers.jpg

the 2 dings are unknown to me  some one dropped something on it in the winter i think and didn't tell me

i am rather proud of this lol, back about a year ago one of the bolts for my fuel rail stripped out and we used a piece of exhaust strap to hold it down (how ghetto) so i took my fuel rail and welded on an "extension" and drilled a new hole and tapped it in the intake :nice: , still gotta grind it and make it look pretty. BTW the 24 lb injectors were just for mock up so i wouldn't get my 42's dirty lol
fuelrailfix.jpg

other goodies that i have to install
Autometer Sport Comp Gauges:
-boost
-water temp
-oil press.
-and an external fuel pressure gauge that is going on the cowl

new 50Resto carpet
new heater core (what a pain that was  )
ARP head studs
got a bung welded onto my oil pan for oil drain

Motor goes in on saturday, and then its jsut a metter of time till i can drive her again :). i will keep this updated

Very nice, good fix as well! While installing my explorer I cross threaded one of the fuel rail bolts and look what it did!I probably should have done something like you did, but I am lazy...
JB welded the hell out of it and its holding

i had some spots were there was rust but it was mostly in places you don't see (like below the radiator) so i jsut ground down the rust and hit it with some rust inhibitor primer then painted it. for the most part my under hood was fairly rust free

Looks really good man :nice:

Once mine is all running and tuned in, im going to pull my motor and do the bay up like that... looks damn good!

thanks guys, i am shooting to get the car out in 2 weeks cause i miss driving it, but it is supposed to only be like 7C all next week with rain so that may slow me down a little bit (i don't enjoy working on the car in the cool weather)

i got my new carpet in tonight and started putting the interior back in,.... the 50resto mass back carpet it amazing, great fit and not nearly as much trimming as i thought. what's weird is some how i miss placed like 8 screws for the interior trim  , it may be because i went for some beers after work with the boys and am reallllllllllly tired so hopefully tomorrow i will remember what i did with them or it looks like i may take a trip to the junk yard for some screws lol

update kinda

this is how it sits now. me and my buddy put the lower intake on and put the rockers on on the weekend, then dropped it in, its amazing the more times i pull the motor the better i get putting it back in lol. put my interior back together minus the passnger seat an my gauges, I didn't have wire to hook up the lights but the lines are all ran. gotta leave the passenger seat till i put my computer and PMS back in.

some pics

gutted interior
nocarpet.jpg

suddenly i realize how dirty my seats are :(
newcarpetinstalled.jpg

motor in its home, valve covers were just a spare set so i don't scratch my freshly painted new ones while i install everything. motor will be rewashed, and i have no idea why my fuel rail is sitting like that
motordirtyin.jpg

painted some more stuff, cold side pipes, alternator bracket, etc. don't knwo why the dizzy is in this pic lol
pipeblack.jpg

been awhile but i have been slooooowly working on it when i have time. between work and other stuff i don't have much time during the week.

remember stuff is still kinda dirty from working on it. it is alot harder to install everything now that the bay is painted nicer, i am alot more concious of not scratching anything. stuff like the water pump, sway bar and odds and ends will be cleaned once everything is done.

installed my new gauges

hiding some wires. this was alot harder and took a couple hours to figure out, YES THOSE WELDS WILL BE PRIMED SO THEY DON"T RUST

thanks guys, i threw out my back at work today somehow. no wit looks like i may not get to work on it for a couple days :notnice:

i used some high heat gloss black paint for the valve covers and pretty much anything else i painted black. i find if you do like 10 thin coats it really makes it look glossy
