What do you guys think of the idea? Currently im looking at a 2001 Cobra 62kmiles 4 owners at a Lincoln Mercury dealership. Asking price is $18,000 of course but i've spoken to the dealer and we're negotiating down around $16,500-17k.

Idealy i'm looking to trade my 02 GT in for the cobra + i finance 6k through the dealer. If they dont bite on this idea i walk.

But i wanted to know if you guys would sell your modded GT for a stock 01 cobra?

My financial situation is such that i could afford 6k on a finance for a year or 2, but I can't afford anything up front now (ie: putting a supercharger on my car). And for those that will say "pass on the 01, get a terminaotr" I'm 24 in NJ, i can't afford terminator insurance, nor financing on a $23K+ terminator.

What do you think of the idea?

Keep the GT for financial reasons? Get the cobra cause its worth it THAT much?

If i were to get a cobra, i'd INSTANTLy throw my FR500 wheels, new tires, MGW shifter and Steeda Q400 hood (arriving soon) on the cobra immediately. So thats all the cobra would get for mods for a while.

How would the power feel between my modded GT and a stock 01 cobra?

There is a difference in power that you would feel, different kind of power. The cobra is a high revving engine, so the powerband I think is a little different. How many miles on your GT? Plus 4 owners on the cobra sounds like alot in my opinion, so does the mileage.

My GT has 65k miles. I bought my GT @ 27k miles and i am the 4th owner. Number of owners doesn't scare me from a car. My GT has been AMAZING with 0 problems and many would think 3 owners by 27kmiles is a straight RUN AWAY from car.

I'm a mechanic with BMW so im not worried about small mechanical issues or maintenance on the cobra, just major things.

I'll be looking at the car on tuesday hopefully and will post some pics. Just wanted to know what you guys thought of the idea. Is it worth the trade, ya know?

Basically the same mileage, but i've seen some with less miles come up for less. My opinion, wait, especially with the financial status. $6k seems like a lot for a difference in price. I would wait, but let us know what you decide. And post pics, because I do love cobras.:nice:

If you want to trade it in, go ahead, but I'd be pulling every aftermarket piece off your car and putting your stockers back on before hand if I were you. If he's a dealer, he could give a rat’s turd about your mods and probably isn't giving you anything extra in the deal for them. At the very least you'll recoup some of your loss selling the parts in the classifieds. Either way.....6k is a little steep for the difference between the two. Especially considering they're both used cars over 5-years-old. I'd do a little more renegotiating if I were you. Either to bring down the cost of the Cobra, or bring up the value of your GT.

...oh and for all those that still insist on only comparing horsepower differences between the Cobra and the GT telling him to "mod the GT and beat Cobra's"....still need to be reminded that you get a lot more than just a few added horsepower when you upgrade to a Snake.

The price on that Cobra is still too high even it you got him down to $16,000. I would'nt do it.

Yup. I wouldnt pay more than 14k for a Cobra with that kind of mileage. also, just to let u know, you will be lucky if he dealer even gives you 6k for your GT. You should try to sell the GT first, then go put that down on the Cobra. You will get alot more money if you do it that way. I never trade in my cars. No disrespect to the 99-01 Cobra owners, but Im so much more happier I bought my Mach instead of the 01 cobras I was looking at.

better looking valve covers

i wish the 2V had a descent pair.

U get alot more than tht. More power, better interior, better front Fascia, aluminum block, IRS, & the higher revving 32v, to name a few. Plus you get the intimidating Snake fender emblems. The downside is that the IRS weighs alot more & has alot more wheelhop than the solid axle.

Yeah I know. I was just loving their valve covers :)

you mentioned aluminum block? we already have aluminum blocks in our GT's right?

99-01 cobra < S/C GT

they look terrible and arent that much better than your GT. the bottom end sucks, the trans is the same. all you are really getting is 32V heads and a nicer interior.

money wouldbe better spent on a blower for your GT.

Money better spent on a blower for the GT??? I guess if running fast in a strait line is all you care about then sure a blower is a nice way of evening the odds, but even after you've thrown all the money into a blower for the 2V, in the end it's just a lower end car with a little muscle....and still a far cry from a Cobra.

You're forgetting the better brakes and much better over all ride and handling you get with the Cobra package. Add the nicer over all interior/exterior styling to the mix as well as exclusive limited ownership you get when owning a Cobra and you quickly realize it's not something that can be duplicated for few hundred or even a few thousand dollars with a GT.

Even if power is still your main goal, the 32V has a 50-60hp head start and increased potential over the 2V when the mods pile on. It also has the option for all the same blowers that the GT does....only you don't have to go nearly as aggressive with the boost levels (which is convenient when you consider the 2V runs an even less than stellar bottom end than the Cobra does) to make the power.

You want a cheap car, that runs fast in a strait line and does everything else mediocre, then sure go ahead and blow your GT and forget the Snake….but if you want to do everything else better, you always start with the superior car to begin with and build from there.

I know he could definitely get more than 6k...probably 9500-10k im guessin.
