400hp ideas?

alright guys thanks alot for your help, ive been lookin alot at the kenne bell kit and looks like a really good route. the torque throughout the rpms is great, i was very impressed, i appreciate the support

400rwhp N/A?

Junk the 2v heads, buy 4v DOHC FR500 heads, port the hell out of the heads and intake, put some nasty cams in, put some high compression pistons and stronger rods and crank, done.

 and you still would barely break 300 to the wheels!! you would need heads, cams, chians, tensioners, front cover, new alternator, etc..............that would cost more than teh s/c and wouldnt have nearly as much power.

the 4.6 loves boost!!!! you wont find a better way to make power than getting blown. it is a small displacement engine so heads and cams dont give us the power that the 350 CI guys get.

I don't know much about V8's but I still don't get you guys?
You have 4.6L to work with...
If you want 400bhp N/A:
I agree on the 4v route, swap to 4v.
Change comp ratio, 10.5:1 should be ok.
Get new After market EFI and Ignition.
Some agressive cams.
New headers and exhaust.
Check the flow in the intake manifold and rebuild it if necessary.

Don't know how much that will do for you but I think it'll put you pretty close to the 400 mark if you do it right.
With a 10.5 comp you can still add a blower if you run on E85 or race gas.

I have never done any work on V8's all my experience com from tuning the crap out of european 4-bangers.

I had everything you just mentioned and te car made right @ 300rwhp.... see the issue here is the small bore on this engine. it shrouds the valves which KILLS flow. it isnt an engine that does well in N/A applications... but with FI it outshines most.

I think you did everything but go 4v.. you should be making 350rwhp or something close to that.

See, you have to be dead set on goin N/A if your going to change the compression ratio and rebuild or fab an intake manifold. that alone would push me toward a TT stang if I had that kind of change burning a hole in my pocket.

Actually this would be good to do for a blower engine as well.
The only thing you need is some knock resistant gas, i.e. high octane...
Like I said E85 or race fuel. This should give you even greater effect from the blower.
If I went for the turbo option I would say low cr but looking at the KB sc you don't really push the boost that hard.

I personally know people running 21psi boost with 10.5:1 cr.

This would push you way beyond 400bhp so it would be some overkill.

The smart route would probably be the blower kit. Perhaps not the most fun route...

If you are going the 4.6 route invest in Sean Hylands 4.6 Liter Ford Engine book. In the back of the book he has engine recipes for building 400hp out of a 4v NA. I always say educate yourself before you spend the $$$.

Well Shiver me timbers.. That's twice this week I ate my foot.\

What all did you do to your car?

I bought a friends car he had wrecked. It had a fresh built 2001 4v with ported C heads and forged internals (manley)

it also had a ton of other good stuff lol.. like an aeromotive fuel system, suspension pieces, ll the gauges I have been looking to get.. yada yada.

with less boost than I am pushing now and without the methanol I am using he made 601rwhp. I am just going by that number for now. I just puleld my heads off today to get the valves upgraded :nice:

then I might even keep it down to put a TT on.. not sure.
