Dyno disappointment!!

I have expressed my disappointment in a completely appropriate way to the owner & tech...after all I'm still hoping to get what I was looking for without having to go elsewhere.

Even if I get nowhere and I'm stuck, I have a very good repoir with the BBB and will let them handle it before it gets too ugly....but I'm sure I'd have a couple things to say first

:bang: I forgot to mention the idle was hanging wicked bad when I took it for a ride a couple days ago...dunno if that points to anything specific (vacuum leak?)

You mentioned these guys had Stangs...Seems this wouldnt be the 1st 95 they modded and burned a chip for......What brand of chip they burn??
FTI supplied all the valvetrain??

I don't know what brand chip it is...I just havent bothered to ask because I figured that wasn't the issue. I'll find out though.

Heads, cam, pushrods came from Ed (amongst other things), ordered the rocker arms from Summit...

This is the whole reason why I would never let someone tune my car. They are just shrugging their shoulders, pointing their fingers elsewhere and trying to BS their way through it.

I hope you paid with a credit card. You may be able to cancel payment, and promise re-payment once they fix the car correctly.

So the car drove fine when you brought it there, and now, mysteriously, your O2's are bad??? :rlaugh: That is classic!!!!

They need to start with the basics and make sure you have no ex or vacuum leaks, all cylinders are firing equally, etc. Then start with a factory tune, and see what happens. This is sad; I am truly disgusted. Do not give up. Stand your ground, and tell them you will not take the car in this condition!!!! Good luck!

That does seem low. Previous owner of my z28 claimed it dynoed at 270 to the wheels with intake elbow, cold air intake, no cat, slp loudmouth and dyno tune. 1995 model also. No LS1.

I think my GT would dyno at like 180. Its a dog.

340rwtq is pretty typical for a 302's torque. That is around what I see for the custom cam 302's...

Oh and the 65mm TB is not the reason for the lower numbers. That would be one of the very last things I would check.

Update

The tech called me and let me know he replaced the O2 and ACT sensors which helped quite a bit and that he noticed in doing this some of the vacuum lines were routed incorrectly.

He rerouted the lines and said once he can find/fix all the leaks that whole situation created the closed loop issues should be ok....we'll see after the next dyno session!!

My questions are:

-would the improper vaccum line routing cause failure of the O2 & ACT Sensors? (they were good when I arrived)

-would the car be able to pull 275rwhp with nice smooth tq/hp curves with the hoses like that? or do you think this will uncover another issue?

thanks so much for all the help all :SNSign:

Here is the simple way to say what I think happened :D

They had those issues you just said and failed to clean them all up
sooooo
You bet ... It hosed up the way it ran and the way it measured up on the dyno.

Looks like you are now getting somewhere :nice:

I had very little time in my last reply above so I had to be brief.

I got more time now :D

No ... It is doubtful any of your sensors just went bad :nono:

however ... It is possible that some of them may have been
damaged if during the project .......
reasonable precautions were not followed.

O2's can be damaged if you knock or bang them around.

I mean ... all that kind of stuff needs to be treated with care.

You tear off the intake, heads, and front of the motor with an
upgrade of that nature.

Just think of all the hoses, wires, gaskets and the like that need
to be undone and put back together.... CORRECTLY ;)

They had some of that stuff not like it should be
and
You got the opportunity to see the results of it :(

IMHO ... anybody can take off and put back on parts
but
One has gotta pay attention to the little details
if
One is gonna have an outcome that is successful

They are now gonna have go back and deal with that lack of
attention to details and you would be wise to not take
delivery of your car until you are satisfied they make
EVERYTHING as it should be ... if you ask me.

For your sake ... I'm glad for you :D
as
It appears that they stand behind their work :nice:

I look forward to your new and improved dyno results

O Yeah ... Ask them what happens if some drivability issue crops up
over the next few days

I mean ... I hope it don't :Word:
but ...
Its good to be prepared ... just in case ... don't ya know ;)

Grady

just make sure you pay with a credit card. so you can dispute the charges if you have to.

vacuum leaks and hose routed wrong can definitely cause O2 sensor codes. you should not have to pay for the O2 sensors or the ACT sensor(can cause a code if installed wrong).

good luck, hope fixing the vacuum hoses works.

also, besides the BBB you can contact the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) since you're in California

update...if you're in the loop

well the tech says now it's idling terrible when the engine is cold and running great once it's warmed up....I can't say I have a clue what would cause that.

I hope I can have my car running properly (& putting down larger #'s) for the Holiday weekend!!

2 things that could cause that are:

IAC-Intake Air Temp sensor

ECT-Engine coolant Temp sensor

If an 18yr old with a tweecer can get a supercharged h/c/i car with 42 lb/hr injectors and what not tuned up and running well....then they should at least be able to get a drivable tune on it since they're professionals..........and trust me people...I'm no genius.

which leads me to believe that your problem is definitely something mechanical. Probably something as simple as them forgetting to hook something up.......If it's not running well until it's warmed up then I'd agree with cjones.

also, what is the idle doing. Surging?
