What makes our Stangs the bar?

Mustangs are a good middle of the range performance wise.
Okay handling and straight line perfomance stock at an affordable price.
Easy to upgrade on both grounds of performance.
Mustangs are definately a household name. Everyone has heard of a Ford Mustang.

Rootus,

I wish I had every dollar you spent on your car into my mustang so that we could do such a comparison.
Stock for stock there is no comparison.
Your car's newer technology is far superior.
Now if you had a '95 Subaru Impressa(sp?) and compared it to a stock '95 Mustang I think that would be a different story all together.
You'd definately would win handsdown offroad/ralley style racing though since that is what the Subaru WRX STI was designed to do.

Mustangs suck. And no, I haven't had one hand me my ass yet. Then again, I don't street race, so it's unlikely to happen anytime soon. See you on the roadcourse, and best of luck handing me my ass there... ;)

Apples and oranges mean anything to you?

I have to agree that "most" people around here that hear someone speak of their "fast import" think of someone with a Honda and a fart canon. Right or wrong, it's the typical. Just because YOU own a pricey import designed for road rallys does NOT mean your opinion can overturn the opinion of the masses. Sorry, but you are not THAT high on the food chain. :D

Actually no.

Ricers must not be very common in your area. In my town we joke about how all the real cars meet on the South side, and all the ricers meet on the North side. I guess it makes sense cause there's an economic difference between the two areas. But you'll see STI's, Camaros, Mustangs, even classic cars meeting and racing on the south side. On the North side it's all ricers that just sit in the parking lot blasting music with their systems all night.

I'm not big on street racing or rice, so I never go to either meet.

I plan on finding a low-mileage, 6 spd S60R within the next year. But even though that'd make me an Import owner, I still won't lose my contempt for ricers.

Judging other people buy the car they choose to drive is silly.

It's not what they drive, but how they drive it. It bugs the crap out of me to see people driving Economy cars like they're race cars. Especially when you rarely see Mustangs or Camaros driving like asshats, yet you can't throw a rock without hitting someone driving their Galant, Camry, Civic, OR minivan like they think it's a damn Indy car. :notnice:

Your car's newer technology is far superior.

Common Sense FTMFW!!!:nice:

Its a very different story, considering I own both and can vouch a 95 Impreza is crap in the straights, but when it comes down to the twisties well, you can guess the outcome.

A lot of really good points in here. Rootus, not tryna start a fight, but maybe you could explain to us on your reasonings on why Mustangs suck. I think people would understand your side of the story better.

If you're comparing the Mustang to your STi when it comes to technology, handeling, ect., then definitely hands down your STi is better stock for stock. But build quality, I'd have to differ. I've put 30k miles on this thing, and it has never given me problems. An oil leak here and there, but that's it.

Scenario: One factory builds plastic cars (mustangs), and another builds metal cars (subaru). Out of the box, metal is stronger than plastic, but lets say the new Subaru owner leaves the metal outside and it rusts, but the Mustang owner takes care of his plastic. Get my point? Things break, but not as often if an owner takes care of it.

Back on topic:

I have a lot of friends who own imports (integras, wrxs, eclipses, ect). When I got my car, I was the odd one out of the bunch. I got the typical Ford jokes and Domestic jokes, but when it came down to power, they knew when to shutup. My car is not fast by ANY means, but they know to associate Mustangs with speed.

Interesting views. Rootus' answers kind of lent themselves to why I made the thread. Nobody said STI's suck (even though my friend has one and I don't like anything about it :p ), but out comes all the mustangs suck stuff. I work in the import business all day 6 days a week, and the amount of Ricky-Racers I see pulling up in crap boxes (stock 8 valve vw's, stock honas and such) that I know for a fact run 17+ quarters see my car parked there, or my carshow plaques on the wall and then bust out saying they can beat mustangs. Like who are they trying to fool. I see stangs made fun of on vw and honda forums, by people who know nothing more than being able to quote lines from one of the fast and furious movies, and It's hilarious, and it happened enough to where I finally had to make a thread about it to see if anyone else noticed the same hatred focused in our direction. :)

One of the managers at my old job drove a WRX, and he was talking crap about how Mustangs suck. The only point he made was that when he lived in NY, everyone knew Mustangs are useless in the snow.
Then one kid that was listening to his BS, and normally didn't care much about cars busted out with, "Yea, well this is Florida, and it doesn't snow down here."
:rlaugh: :rlaugh:

You basically answered your own question:
I see stangs made fun of on vw and honda forums, by people who know nothing more than being able to quote lines from one of the fast and furious movies

They have 0 knowledge about cars. They just go around spitting the BS they heard from someone else who is as stupid as they are.

My roommate had a turbo Civic(<--got stolen). It was fast, and could've handed my car it's ass from 60-110. But now he wants a Foxbody 5.0 to turbo. He doesn't talk crap about Mustangs because he actually knows cars.

Rooters probably got dicked over by a Ford dealer on warranty work or something. I don't know what's up his ass about Mustangs.

LOL! This is too easy, kinda like taking candy from a baby.

Mustangs are a good middle of the range performance wise.
Okay handling and straight line perfomance stock at an affordable price.
Easy to upgrade on both grounds of performance.
Very insightful, and I agree 100%.

I wish I had every dollar you spent on your car into my mustang so that we could do such a comparison.
To be fair, I'd need to compare my STI to a new Mustang. If I took the money I spent on my 2006 STI and dropped it on a 12 year old Impreza, that would be more comparable.

A lot of really good points in here. Rootus, not tryna start a fight, but maybe you could explain to us on your reasonings on why Mustangs suck. I think people would understand your side of the story better.
LOL. I must have been out of the 94/95 forum too long. I like Mustangs. But I like to taunt people who cannot escape the stereotype. People here are flinging insults at "imports", and that offends me as much as seeing people trash Mustangs on the STI forum. I taunt them over there too ;).

But build quality, I'd have to differ. I've put 30k miles on this thing, and it has never given me problems. An oil leak here and there, but that's it.
I agree, more or less. My STI has vastly superior build technology to a SN95, which should not be a surprise given the factory SN95's were built in. It's probably about equal to a S197. And the materials quality in the interior is merely okay. Nice looking and designed well, but not as tough as the hard plastic SN95 interior.

Interesting views. Rootus' answers kind of lent themselves to why I made the thread. Nobody said STI's suck (even though my friend has one and I don't like anything about it :p ), but out comes all the mustangs suck stuff.
I'm happy to oblige ;). Nobody singled out STIs. But last time I checked, it's an import, and people ARE pulling out the stereotypes in this thread and bashing imports. It's bull**** either way.

everyone knew Mustangs are useless in the snow.
I would not dispute that. A live axle RWD V8 car has no business playing in the snow. I only tried it a few times, and it is why I always owned another vehicle that could get me around on the rare snow days where I live.

Rooters probably got dicked over by a Ford dealer on warranty work or something. I don't know what's up his ass about Mustangs.
Sigh. First, it's "Rootus". Second, I've gotten dicked over by the local Ford dealer on warranty work so many times I gave up counting. I don't judge Ford based on the action of one retarded dealer. I have no hate towards Mustangs. I laid out a little bait for the asshats, and it worked.

I stand behind what I said. Mustangs suck. I never said STIs don't.

Now quit being asshats and throwing around brain-dead comments about imports. I have a hard enough time defending Mustang owners on the import boards without having people here laying down fresh new turds. Take the high road.

well, if you wanna get into the "ricer" thing....that's neither import nor domestic.

IMO, "ricer" is an attitude and not a certain brand of car. I've seen imports that can haul balls..and I've seen imports that could hardly haul it's own tires.

HOWEVER, the same EXACT thing can be said about domestics.

I've seen people with stock mustangs saying they can take newer vettes....

and I've seen people with stock (lower performance) imports saying they can take vettes.....

when the owner of said cars, and I, both new damn well they couldn't.

All about the attitude.....

well, if you wanna get into the "ricer" thing....that's neither import nor domestic.
True, it has evolved into that for the most part. Although there are plenty of people on this forum that would call my STI rice because it was made in Japan.

IMO, "ricer" is an attitude and not a certain brand of car.
I'm screwed, then :D. I admit that there are times I actually like the park-bench-wing on my car . It still makes me chuckle sometimes when I see it. 'Tis the only reason I have not gone wingless yet... ;)

well, it's not even the wings....pipes...etc

it's more of the..."Deep down, I know I'm slower...but I'm still gonna fly by and cut you off" thing....

Or the ones that have an exhaust and maybe a tad bit of work done to..say..a lancer.......and all of a sudden they think they actually have an evo.

or the v6 stangs with badges...and the owners actually start to think they have a v8 and start to tell people it has a v8...

stupid park bench of a wing ;P I've always kinda liked it a bit on those cars...I think it sets the hood scoop off pretty well

Also, I could care less where it was made....if it runs, it runs :D

Sounds like you're being overly defensive and trying to make something out of nothing though. Taking the high road is calling us brain-dead asshats? That makes a lot of sense. This was a thread to see what other mustang owners views were on the issue, not to say than one car is better than another. I grew up in the import business and have lived on both sides of the fence, and no matter the make our name comes up more often than not.

Rootus, tootus...... :nonono: Your post makes me laugh. You seem to think you can stir the pot and be "joking". And every who replys is "dead serious" and therefor an asshat. :rlaugh: I see a great deal of smilies in this thread. Perhaps people didn't take your bait as well as you took it yourself. :rlaugh:

Think about who is doing the REALLY immature part and name calling specific individuals. :nono:
