What is this stuff? all in my vacuume ports/fittings. Is this what is messing up my motor?
I'm amazed any AIR could still pass throughthe fittings! How should I clean the upper intake??(my self, not taking it anywhere)

***UPDATE***
I started to do a compression test. I did NOT warm the motor up first, since the upper intake is off. There is something else going on, I don't think it's a head gasket. I cranked the motor over and the #8 cyl blew 180PSI the other 4 I tried #4,5,6 and 7, all blew 170-180PSI.

I took more pics. Look at this first one closly. See where the intake port meats the cylinder head intake port, at the gasket? See how it looks brand new?? Well they ALL look like this EXCEPT #8.

Now look at the #8 cyl. See how in the actual head there's all that build up?? WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?? My theory was a messed up injector, and that may explain why it would hang at 2500rpm's for a few seconds when the throttle is released before it settles back into idle.

The #8 plug has those deposits on it, and looks like high-speed glasing/ Detonation?? WHY??

Did you see the other thread? There are more pics... Pretty weird huh? There has to be some correlation between this and the #8 cylinder/plug...Maybe I'll take the accumulator out of the PCV/vac line and install it inbetween the oil filler tube and TB....It, possibaly got clogged and stopped filtering the oil out and it all just deposited in the intake vac. ports?? I pulled the valve covers, and the oil in the heads that had not yet drained back looks fine, brand new VR1 race oil....

No way that is straight oil...
There is water/coolant in that...

If you don't have the lines hooked to the egr spacer, then the next likely cause would be a head gasket.
As unlikely as you think it is.

Water is in your motor, somewhere...

EDIT:
Compression and leakdown tests are good at this point... (you have done these...)
So is a pressure test of the cooling system...

is this car driven everyday? If not it could just be condensation from the motor cooling down.....it pretty much just makes it look like it rained in your valve covers then when u go to start the car back up.....it flushes all the condensation in with your oil.

Cars that are not driven everyday (my fox) my dads car (keith craft built motor) Have a milky whitish snot like substance in the valve covers on some occasions....nothing to worry about really if you are not losing coolant and you have compression numbers within 15% of each other in each cylinder.

Where is your air filter at?
Can it injest water?
From under the vehicle, wheelwell, fan wash pulling it through the radiator fins, etc.

That wouldn't explain the #8 port being so dirty though. But, you may have 2 unrelated problems.
It appears as though you possibly have a f@%ked up injector, are you getting power to that injector? Get a noid light or borrow one, etc. and check that you have the electrical pulse from the harness. The cleanliness on the outer ports suggests the injector spray pattern. The glazing, looks to be detonation, maybe from a overly lean condition? from a possible bad injector on that one port. Maybe it's spraying a little, but not enough.

You mentioned you have another set of the old injectors, can you swap them out?

Are you low on coolant? You say the oil looks good.

I have seen this once before, but it was on a 6.0 that the oil cooler came apart on. That crap was everywhere.

I'm curious myself, let us know.

Ya, but it feels like it's running on 7 cylinders. Probibaly because that #8 cylinder isn't working right. Just look at it! Here's the view down the intake, where the pcv goes.....
dscn2833li1.jpg

And the pcv itself....
dscn2836yn9.jpg

So it's being "created" in the lifter valley, crankcase, whatever (head/intake gasket seepage??) and being drawn through the vac line from the pcv and forming in the ports in the upper intake. The lower looks fine in ports 1-7. (again the problem is the #8 port in the head is all gunked-up. But this is a totaly different kind of gunk....study the pic...I don't know why THIS is happening, may be linked to the "snot" in the intake???)

I agree it's not just oil.
I have only done a comp test, since the numbers were good I did not do a leakdown test. I will if I need to (it costs $60 from summit)

It was driven a bit before this happened, but no, it's not driven every day.

I was slightly low on coolant so I filled it up. Then drove the car hard for 10 mins. and then the thermostat housing gasket blew out and shot coolant everywhere. When I went to replace it, I was STILL trying to find out why the car was not running 100% after I just got Like $500 in parts (maf, fpr, wires, tfi, fuel filter, plugs tec.) and I stumbled on these problems. I'll put it back togeather and test with old injectors (but they are stock, so I can't really try WOT runs and see if the car is running 100%) Sh**** luck. aah. I gues if it feels better and the gunk dosnt come back i'll buy new injectors. If that's not the problem I'll go with new head gaskets.....Or it most likly needs both.:rlaugh:

ewww... could a very small intake gasket leak (coolant) do this if it drips out a little coolant in the lifter valley? Like enough to evaporate but not enough to drop into the pan?

Did you drain the oil to see what it looked like?

In all honesty....if its not overheating, not losing coolant or compression...i wouldnt worry about it!
WTF kind of advice is that?

  • You have oil/water 'Goo' collecting in the intake
  • Your losing coolant
  • You 'Blew Out' the a coolant gasket when driving aggressively
  • The car isn't running 'Right'
All of this adds up to HG, or other cooling system issue.

Do a pressure test on the cooling system

Why do you think injectors are causing these issues.

Do the coolant pressure test,

jason

Its the advice he should be taking!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check all the vital signs if nothing shows to be wrong than you make a judgement by the data you collect....its common sense.

If he is losing coolant THATS when you need to be worried! Out of all the engines i have built the last couple years almost everyone (that doesnt get driven regularly) Has a little bit of milky substance to the oil and its because of condensation!
I do agree that he should do a full leak down test!
