After searching everywhere, and reading a ton of threads. I decided to post here.

I have a 99 GT which had a leaking rear-transmission seal. I went ahead and slid the driveshaft out to get to the seal, but the seal itself will not budge. Does anyone have any experience removing this thing? I didn't want to use too much force without checking with someone who may have had experience with it.

Thoughts?

There are articles on TCCOA dealing with replacing this seal. Its the "extention housing tailshaft seal" that is very common to produce leaks, particularly after rear end gear changes.

Mine leaked soon after a 4.10 gear swap, and my dealer was kind enough to warranty a whole new extention housing on the trans, so I dont have any hands-on experience replacing it.

There is a mod you can to do help prevent this seal from going bad and leaking, its just referred to as the rear seal lube-mod. It's somewhere on TCCOA but I cant find it right now. You might ask the guys on modular depot.net.

edit: I found it, scroll down to the extention housing section.

Use a seal puller

Yeah, that was my first attempt. I may need to go to a few different auto-stores today. The guy I talked to at AutoZone didn't have any seal-pullers (and acted like he hasn't heard of them). I'll check some Checkers / Pep Boys.

Funny thing, this car has a new rearend - shortly after is when the leak happened. The rear end was swapped before I bought the car. The leak wasn't noticed until I did a tranny oil-change.
