i know i know your all probably going to kill me but i was thinking of pulling the v8 out of my 76 mustang and put in a 4 cyl of the 91-93 year with the EFI setup and the 5spd. i am a true fan of the 2.3 liter motor and i do travel alot and i would just like to drive my ii much more often than i do now. she just sits in the garage and waits for the nice weather and car shows that are near due to its gas mileage. and the ii is so much lighter that the fox body mustang with the same 2.3 that i feel with some goodies added to the motor that the ii should run very nicely down the road with that setup in her.

I have considered it. Get the 2.3l Turbo instead. They can easly make 300hp and if you keep your foot out of it they get decent milage. I thought of your same root for a daily driver Mustang II, but II's are not very good in the snow! I had a 1987 2.3l Mustang 5 speed, it was a really, really, really slow car. My Geo 3cyl 5spd was faster! A fox only weights a couple hundred pounds more the a II. You would be living your life a quarter mile and 20 seconds at a time. LOL :rlaugh:

well just FYI i race a 93 4cyl mustang in the SCCA in a fox body and with just a few mods to her she really runs quick. with driver the car comes in 2750 lbs. My other car is a 2000 mustang GT with the roush stage 3 kit all in black. I'm looking for a high horse power drag only car but i'm more into haveing it handle great and keep the look of the 70's style mustangii but also be able to jump in her and drive it for long distances to go to some special mustang ii shows all over the US. Also just for the icing on the cake i do have in my garage a 1984 SVO motor that just needs to be freshened up and the electronics for it and its ready to drop into a ii. It would be fun to ba able to cruise down the highway with the ii looking mean and having the power of a 2.3T under the hood and the gas mileage. I will not get rid of the car, i do enjoy it, just want to do long distance drives with it:nice:

I agree with the turbo. Stay out of boost and you'll pretty much have similar MPG numbers to NA. I had a Procharger kit on my SVT Focus and when out of boost my MPG was no worse than 1-3 less than before the kit and tune.

generally you get better gas milage with a turbo..
do as you wish, but you could just pick up another II for little money and do the swap to that one instead of pulling a running 302 out of the one you got..
if your asking about a benefit in power.. dont bother you will end up always having to floor to get the turbo to spool in a 4cyl.. if its any advantage that way
it would probably extend to a mile or two per gallon... big deal..
if its stability that is your concern.. im pretty sure the best weight distribution between front of car and rear of car was stated the v8 for the II..
you would have to ask parthos (occasionally here) for the best results...
considering he has pulled/recorded some great numbers in testing at the track..
his numbers are better than many new cars...
