Currently, my car has JBA shorty headers w/ a 3" magna-flo x-pipe. The pipes are 3" and go straight back to spintech mufflers and turndowns before the rear axle. It sounds awesome, but i think it's too loud for the street.

I don't want to run the pipes out the back. Besides, I don't think there is enough room anyways.

So, are there any other options or suggestions? Han anybody tried Dynatech turndowns w/ the cone insert? What about realigning the turndowns to not point directly down?

you have full 3" exhaust with turndowns, its going to be loud. Unless you want to get some tailpipes on there or maybe go down to 2.5", its going to remain loud no matter what you do. Even with the 2.5" pipe and dumps, it is going to be loud.

Are you worried about the sound outside, inside, or both? I lowered the sound levels a lot inside and quite a bit outside by installing the "sidepipe installation kit" from Dynomax. Costs $50 through Summit. The pipes are 2.5" so you'll need some adapters if you're doing a driveway bolt-on job. Otherwise take it to a shop and have them weld it up.

Pointing the turndowns toward the ground, back, angled and other unproven lore is useless. For effectiveness you need to add more pipe or switch mufflers. To reduce interior sound the pipe outlet must be outside the car's perimeter.

Put in a 12" in line Dynamax before the mufflers. They should fit in the driveshaft tunnel with no problem.

Does amazing job and does not rob performance.

Do you know anyone that has done this? How much of a difference would it make?

Are you referring to the Dynomax 12" bullet race muffler?

I did it and it will solve the problem.

Yes, it was the Dynamax 12" race muffler. My street exhaust system also turned down at the rear axle, just as yours. It may be a simple cut and install in your case.

Step 1, get rid of those spin tech mufflers. They are J-U-N-K. Put some Magnaflows on there. How big is your motor and how much power are you making ? 3" exhaust is a lot of pipe unless you really need it. Why don't you have enough room to get the exhaust out the back, you got some crazy rear suspension setup back there ? If you want it quieter, you can always throw some resonators in line to quiet it down.

The motor is a 500hp 347. I have some new pistons a blower that I will be adding, so that's why I went with the 3".

I don't want pipes coming out the back and I don't really think there is enough room. The rear has a Griggs GR-350 coilover setup.

I'm thinking with the shorties, 1.625" primaries? That is your restriction, not tailpipes, enen 2.5". You need to get the sound out from under the drivers compartment. I have run exhaust under the axle before. You can not let the rear end down on jackstands, but that is the only drawback. If it is lowered much, it is not hard to do.

I think 3" tailpipes might have clearance issues with the gas tank also...unless you want to 'massage' it a little. I am not familiar with the griggs coil over set, so I cant speak to that...
