So after several long weeks, I finally fired the 347 for the first time tonight!

I had a couple small issues but it pretty much fired up right away and was running pretty good. I need to go back and re-adjust the valves, but other then that all seems well. I should have everything buttoned up tomorrow and be ready for my first drive.

Thanks for everyones help!

BTW- I plan on having it dyno tuned right away (within the next two weeks) anyone care to start guessing on RWHP numbers? - I will guess 370 RWHP

What was your few issues? I have the DSS 331 and AFR 185's so if I have anything to anticipate (sp?) it would be nice to be ready for it.

Well the problem I had right before firing it was that when I was switching to the new firing order and putting the spark plug wires on the cap I put them on going clockwise- but that was all my fault.

Aside from that below are the major build issues I experienced:

1. stock oil pan wouldn't fit with the main support system- I bought a 9qt off ebay.

2. Oil pump pick up tube- I had to grind down part of its mounting flange & spacer to clear the main support system (If they gave you the spacer, use it)

3. The early style fuel pump eccentric wouldn't fit with early timing cover and late model block - DHearne was helped me out and sent me a late model one piece eccentric wich was thinner.

4. the big SFI balancer wouldn't fit- I had to grind down a couple spots on the bottom of the water pump to make room.

5. Plugging the dipstick hole- I plugged it with a 3/8 freeze plug I got from a local machine shop, then cover the plug/hole with black RTV (I definately made an error here by not plugging it before I dropped the motor in, or at least put the headers on :bang: )

6. Late model to early model clutch linkage adaptor thingy (aka Pain in the Ass)- first problem is that it was designed to work with a standard bell, NOT a scattershield. I had to grind the edge of the scattershild down to get the adaptor to fit on, then I had to add spacers to bring it closer to where its supposed to be, because the bellhousing in the location is much thicker. THEN I had to clearance my header (with a hammer) because the adaptor prevented it from seating.

You can see the grinding and clearancing I hand to do in these pics:

I think those are just about all the problems I had.

Had both of the same problems first time around:bang:

Gah..just tried to get the late model "thingy" in myself...Hooker super comps definitly dont fit..Im going to have to hammer one of tubes to get it to fit..Plus I have to pull the header off to do it...as I already had them on. dumb dumb dumb.
