What is the black plastic box from the IAC to intake do?

You are talking about the wrong thing my friend. We aren't talking about an Air inlet Silencer. We are talking about the little black box connected inline with the IAC (Idle Air Controller)

Sorry....Well im not sure what that looks like. I thought that box was the air inlet silencer? Someone show me a pic of what u guys are referring 2?

Find the IAC in this pic. We are talking about the little black box the protrudes from it.

OK...Sorry guys, I was talking about the wrong thing.. your talking about the black box in the middle of the pic over the intake manifold. My car is 32V so it looks way different & it doesnt have that box...

So that box keeps the IAC noise down huh? Well, my truck (ranger) makes an ungodly humming sound ... I wonder if I put the box off my car onto my truck if it would help? What yall think (besides get a new IAC) :p

Looks like its just to quiet down some noise.........

Edit: I tried removing the hose at the IAC and the car wouldnt stay running (just to see how it sounded :).)

Yea if you remove it while its running it will die....other option is to pull it off and put your hand partly over it to keep it running, OR crank the car up with it off.

What they did was place their hand over it to keep it from ding and slowly started allowing more air in and it quickly learned and idled by itself. It was darn cool and did the ROMP, ROMP, ROMP thing at idle for a while and then started "hitting" :D Sounded

Wait Cody, so does that mean if i unplugged my iac while the car was running and it didnt die its time for a new IAC? My car has an idle that drops to like 400-500rpm's when coming to a stop and then hangs at 1100 rpms at times. Would that be my problem?

Who said you couldn't? The silencer is there just for noise control, nothing more. That being said, there really isn't any reason at all for removing it either. There are no ill effects or advantages for having it on, or bypassing in either case.
no one said you could'nt,might just be me,but no one answered his orig. question, until this(your) post
