Well I've nearly got my cobra to the point that I want it, so I have been thinking about my next project vehicle. I really want an 03-04 cobra but for the money I think I can build something just as killer.

I have been seriously toying with the idea of building a 1979 pace car with all 03 cobra running gear and a kenne bell to top it off. I already have a 79 pace car but I think I want to buy one the is in prestine low mile condition or a restored one which in the end will save me money of restoring mine and modding it at the same time. For the most part the body will be stock except a taller cowl hood, because I love they way these cars look stock.

So I photoshop an original Pace car pic to show what it will look like. Clean, yet a little more modern and high tech looking with the larger cowl, big wheels and breaks and a badass motor/trans/irs.

What do you guys think of this idea. I think that I can build this with the kenne bell for the same as or less that I would pay for a decent 03 cobra.

Not sold that I want to go with the pace car lettering or leave it off. If I remember correctly when you bought these cars they came with the lettering off, it was your decision if you wanted them put on or not. It may clean up the look not to have the lettering.

Looks cool but id go for the 03/04 cobra. They are true "drivers" and not many cars that make 500rwhp easily can say that. I guess it depends what you want ultimately, but a 500-600rwhp grocery getter sounds perfect to me.. Plus you have your car for the shows.. Best of both worlds

Cool idea.
In the May issue of 5.0 Mustang they had a Texas DPS SSP with an '01 Cobra drivetrain. It belongs to one of the employees at 5.0Resto.
Putting the Cobra stuff into foxes is starting to become popular. I think doing it in an SSP or Pace Car is an awesome idea. I wouldn't do it to an SVO though, lol.

IMO, if it's a Pace Car, it needs the graphics.

i think that is one of the coolest ideas ever. i love how those look, and to have a 4v, 6spd, irs one. it would be soo awesome. something like that would definitley have me talking about it. i dont think i have ever seen a pace car on the road, so something like that would get my attention over an '03. i am all for wanting people to notice my car, and give me input on it. nobody is going to look twice at a stock terminator, because they are everywhere, and any non-car guy can go and whip out his check book to get one. (dont get me wrong i would love to have a cobra) but driving something that nobody else has, and many people would want, (especially when you did all the work yourself) is much cooler to me.
oo and keep the decals

that would be sick, Tom!

i've always loved those 4-eyed foxes (Mom used to have one when i was a kid) w/ the lowered front bumpers and soft ducktail in teh back.

they can really look mean and seem really lite--i'm sure a terminator drivetrain would freakin rock it out!

i was gonna say the same thing rio did. In an issue of mm&ff a guy did a conversion with a terminator interior into his fox. he did have to custom make the door panels but it came out really nice.

Just to clear something up. I would definately keep the decals, but for the lettering on the door, it was an option to put them on or leave them off, that part is what I am undecided on but the rest of the graphics would definately stay.

As stated above, anyone can have a 03-04 cobra and almost everyone does, so it is hard to have one and be original. If anyone knows me, I want to be different, but at the same time I still want a cobra like everyone else, I am just thinking about having it in a unique package.

You might as well put the lettering on, IMO. If you don't do the lettering, you might as well leave the orange off the car, and keep it black and silver.

A pacecar would be the only pre-'85 Fox I would build. IMO, the front ends just never looked right 'til '85. Even then I'd prefer an '86 GT front end to get the foglights.
If you can't find another pacecar, I vote for doing the same to an '86 GT or '87-'93 notch.

Also, building a '93 Cobra(or clone) with an '03 Cobra drivetrain, suspension, and interior would just be awesome.
